Facebook Bans âDysfunctional Veteransâ Page That Raises Money For Homeless Veterans

Facebook banned the popular veterans page for the second time this week.
By
Dysfunction Veterans, a Facebook page run by Michael Rivers, himself a veteran, was banned from Facebook for allegedly violating its content policies regarding firearms.
Speaking to Big League Politics, Rivers explained that his page was banned for buying ads on Facebook to promote a contest where entries could win an AR-15 rifle, even though according to the letter of Facebookâs community guidelines, his promotion was following Facebookâs rules.
âWe do try to stay within Facebookâs guidelines, they just make them up as they go along,â said Rivers. âWe ran a contest, a promo to give away an AR-15. It was a licensed firearms company, and we are an online retailer. According to Facebook rules, itâs okay because we are two online retailers that follow all applicable state and federal guidelines.â
He went on to explain that 8 days into the advertisement, which was approved by Facebook, they removed the advertisement and banned the staff member who posted it for 30 days. Rivers immediately ended the advertisement and removed all reference of it from the page, but Facebook proceeded to ban members of his staff two more times for the same, deleted advertisement.
âThey banned us again for the same exact thing,â said Rivers. âSo again, we appealed it, and then yesterday the page was unpublished and they cited the same thing again.â
âWe had ended the promo last month, midway through it. After two or three weeks of not running it, they banned us for the same advertisement.â
Rivers says he appealed the latest ban and supplied Facebook with relevant excerpts from their own community guidelines as evidence his page did nothing wrong. He is currently waiting to hear back from the big tech platform.
In addition to selling merchandise via the Dysfunction Veterans online store, Rivers also runs a non-profit organization focused on providing housing to homeless veterans, DV Farm, that sometimes receives cash injections from the profits made from the Dysfunctional Veterans retail operation. Rivers provides housing and support to up to five homeless veterans at a time, and says his organization focuses on the âproblem childâ cases that are ignored by the Veterans Administration and other veterans organizations.
While Rivers remained optimistic about DV Farmâs ability to continue, it seems Facebookâs decision to remove the page for a post that seemingly did not violate the big tech platformâs rules may impact the non-profit.
âWe are not federally or state funded so we rely solely on donations,â said Rivers. âEvery month, of course, the non-profit being brand new, there would be a shortfall. We try to keep it in the black, but it can be an expensive project.â
âNo matter what, whatever I make off the Dysfunctional Veterans store, goes to making sure the non-profit keeps running.â
Rivers also revealed that a similar incident happened in the days before the 2016 presidential election. His page was removed by Facebook without an explanation, and after other veterans who are now CEOâs and prominent business individuals reached out to Facebook on Riversâ behalf, the page was reinstated. Rivers still has no idea why his page was removed, or why it was reinstated.
âIn the last few days before the voting started, we were on fire. Every meme we posted was reaching millions,â said Rivers. âAnd we were shut down, and of course they would not show us what we posted that violated the community guidelines.â
âPeople reached out to me from other organizations, other CEOâs, and within 24 hours Dysfunctional Veterans was back up.â
He explained that this is a âhabitâ of Facebook, where they will remove content and ban pages without giving them an explanation of what they did wrong or what behavior they should avoid in the future.
Big League Politics contacted Facebook for comment on why the Dysfunctional Veterans page was removed, and did not receive a response.
Riversâ other Facebook page, Veteran Humor, is still published on the platform.
WATCH: Democrat Rep. Fudge Reads Letter Attacking Trump Supporters, Christians During Floor Speech
By RYAN SAAVEDRA
Democrat Rep. Marcia Fudge (OH) read a letter from one of her constituents disparaging supporters of President Donald Trump and evangelical Christians on Tuesday during a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives.
“It is glaringly apparent that many who support the presidentâs administration are either racists, steeped in religious beliefs, ignorant, or as my mother used to say, just plain dumb,” Fudge said as she read the letter on the House floor. “I believe the crooked ascension of Trump to the Oval Office is a gauge that measures the declining patriotic and moral values of the many citizens of America as well as being the revelation of the hidden bigotry, judgmental attitudes that yet exist in many of those who call themselves evangelicals.”
“I believe that I can safely assume that the United States is no longer a democracy,” Fudge continued reading.
Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX) told Fudge after she read the letter: “Remarks and debate may not engage in personalities towards the president, including by repeating remarks made elsewhere that would be improper if spoken in the memberâs own words.”
The Trump campaign responded to Fudge’s reading of the letter in a tweet, reading: “Democrats didnât learn their lesson from Hillaryâs huge loss. They are still insulting millions of Americans, this time from the floor of the House of Representatives. It seems all Democrats are offering the country is more hate and hoaxes!”
Death Spiral: CNN Loses 1/3 of Primetime Audience, 55% of Demo Fox, MSNBC Only Dip Single Digits in Same Week

By John Nolte
The far-left CNNâs ratings death spiral marched into last week as the fake news network lost one-third of its primetime audience and a breathtaking 55 percent of its demo viewers.
When compared to this same week last year, CNN also lost 21 percent of its total day viewers.
How bad is this?
Well, you canât blame a slow news week because not only was President Trump on an overseas trip, but as you will see, CNN stands completely alone with this massive audience implosion.
By comparison, in primetime, MSNBC and Fox News only lost four percent of their viewers compared to last year and seven and five percent of their total day viewers, respectively.
Let me lay this out for you as starkly as I can.
Primetime Viewership Compared to Same Week Last Year
Fox News: -4 percent
MSNBC: -4 percent
CNNLOL: -33 percent
Total Day Viewership Compared to Same Week Last Year
Fox News: -7 percent
MSNBC: -5 percent
CNNLOL: -21 percent
And that is the good news for CNN chief Jeff Zuckerâs Hate Network.
Brace yourselves because you are not going to believe thisâŚ
CNN lost â wait for it, wait for it â 55 percent (that is not a typo) of its viewers aged 25-54 during primetime last week.
The fake news outlet also lost 45 percent of its total day viewers aged 25-54.
The 25-54 age demo is hugely important because it sets advertising rates.
Let me once again lay this out as starkly as possibleâŚ
Primetime Demo Viewership Compared to Same Week Last Year
Fox News: -25 percent
MSNBC: -32 percent
CNNLOL: -55 percent
Total Day Demo Viewership Compared to Same Week Last Year
Fox News: -22 percent
MSNBC: -31 percent
CNNLOL: -45 percent
In other words, CNN is a total outlier in this audience collapse. The erosion we are seeing in Fox and MSNBCâs total viewership is more like a fluctuation, hardly worth mentioning. CNNâs total viewership collapse, however, is jaw-dropping.
As far as demo viewers, it appears as though young people are overall tiring of cable news, and who can blame them? But CNNâs demo collapse is simply staggering.
Per TVNewser, here are the raw demo numbers from last week:
Cable News Average Audience (Adults 25-54)
Fox News: Prime Time (341,000) and Total Day (213,000)
MSNBC: Prime Time (215,000) and Total Day (113,000)
CNN: Prime Time (178,000) and Total Day (126,000)
In total viewers last week:
Fox News averaged 2.34 million in primetime and 1.3 million in total day.
MSNBC averaged 1.58 million primetime and 869,000 in total day.
CNNLOL averaged a pathetic and humiliating 726,000 primetime viewers and only 531,000 in total day.
This is no anomaly and has nothing to do with a slow news week.
After weeks and weeks and weeks of CNNâs ratings bottoming out, it is safe to say that the bottom is falling out of CNN overall. After six years of Jeff Zuckerâs serial lies, bigotry, hate, booing rape victims, and encouraging violence, CNN has lost anything resembling respectability and a respectable audience.
No one trusts CNN, so no one watches CNN.
ButâŚ
Letâs not forget that 89.5 million people who do not watch CNN are still subsidizing all this hate and bigotry.
Seriously, yâall really do need to cut the cable cord.
