UK woman says she was held by police for 7 hours after ‘misgendering’ trans activist on Twitter

A landmark legal battle is set to unfold between a mother-of-two who says she was arrested for identifying a transgender woman as male, and the alleged victim who has repeatedly reported Twitter users to police for harassment.

38-year-old Kate Scottow from Hertfordshire says that her life has been turned upside down since police arrived at her house on December 1 last year to arrest her, bring her to a station, take her DNA and fingerprints, before opening an investigation that still hasn’t been resolved.

“I was arrested in my home by three officers, with my autistic ten-year-old daughter and breastfed 20-month-old son present,” Scottow wrote on popular online forum Mumsnet.

“I was then detained for seven hours in a cell with no sanitary products (which I said I needed) before being interviewed then later released under investigation… I was arrested for harassment and malicious communications because I called someone out and misgendered them on Twitter.”

Scottow says that her laptop and mobile phone have been retained as evidence, preventing her from working on her Masters degree in forensic psychology.

Hertfordshire police told RT in a statement that an investigation is “ongoing” but insisted that Scottow’s electronic devices have now been returned to her, and denied not issuing her with sanitary products, noting the “request is recorded on our custody system and the products provided.”

‘Reasonable belief that it is impossible to change sex’

The entire investigation was started following a complaint by Stephanie Hayden. She first became widely known last year after comedy writer Graham Linehan was issued with a police caution for “deadnaming” her – referring to her as “Tony” after her birth name Anthony Halliday – though she has pursued a string of similar complaints, including one against a transsexual lawyer.

In this case, Scottow is being accused of using two separate Twitter accounts to “harass, defame, and publish derogatory and defamatory tweets” about Hayden, calling her a “racist, xenophobic and a crook” and a “fake lawyer.”

Her defense insists that Scottow was expressing a “genuine and reasonable belief” that it is impossible to “practically speaking change sex.” Nonetheless, thanks to an injunction the judge has banned her from posting about Hayden online, or making any references to her previous identity.

Hayden has promised to start further legal action against the Daily Mail, which turned the Mumsnet post into a news story.

Ironically for someone who has become the symbol of increased police attention on Twitter hate speech crimes (though she insists she is not an activist) Hayden reportedly has a criminal record herself.

Legal news site RollOnFriday reported last year that in 1999, while still Anthony Halliday, she was convicted of assaulting a man with a golf club, while abusing her victim as a big fat bastard.”  During the sentencing the judge noted Halliday’s previous convictions for disorderly behavior and dishonesty.

‘Are we getting to the PC tipping point?’

The case has attracted comment from several prominent conservative voices and free speech advocates.

“You can’t police properly if officers are endlessly filling custody suites with 38 year old mums whose crime is to have caused needless offense on Twitter,” wrote former foreign secretary Boris Johnson in his Telegraph column.

“Are we getting to the PC tipping point yet? This is insane and has to stop,” tweeted Donald Trump Jr.

“UK is f***ed,” surmised Australian newspaper columnist Rita Panahi.

BREAKING: NEW LEAD In Jussie Smollett Case – Retailers Of Rope Jussie Wore For Police Identified

CAP

Just over a week ago, obscure actor, Jussie Smollett, made national headlines when he claimed he’d been beaten by two racist and homophobic Trump supporters in Chicago at 2am on one of the coldest nights in years.

Smollette’s story quickly raised suspicions leading to an unprecedented investigation for a crime of this nature.

If Jussie is telling the truth, the crime is heinous and the thugs must be caught and brought to justice. If, on the other hand, Jussie is lying about what happened that night, then HE needs to be brought to justice for wasting tens of thousands of dollars in police resources, not to mention the opportunity costs of all the time not spent on real cases while they chased down this one.

Police are making progress getting to the truth about what, if anything, happened to actor Jussie Smollet.

Rafer Weigel reports:

CAP

Rafer is bravely doing the job of an old fashioned reporter. He’s getting information from official and background sources, and reporting it regardless of political/social implications. Straight. Unbiased. No wonder hacks like DeRay are attacking him!

CAP

He’s reporting what police are saying, Dray. Note the 2nd word in the previous sentence.

CAP

Yeah, that’s just crazy town right there. The police have been extremely consistent in treating Mr Smollett as a victim of a crime. If anything, Mr Smollett is receiving preferential treatment. How many other muggings in his neighborhood receive this many police man hours? This is not the only alleged racial attack to go down in the very high rent Streeterville neighborhood. (He’s living with the 1%ers fo sho!) Has there ever been a police response of this magnitude for any other similar crime that happens regularly in Chicago?

In fact, just last year, this same neighborhood had to putout warnings due to violent attacks. I wonder how many man hours were spent investigating these crimes vs those alleged by Jussie Smollett.

Russia exploited ‘racist, sexist, anti-Semitic’ US to divide people, tweets ‘insane’ Kamala Harris

Annotation 2019-02-07 155733

A California senator and media-appointed frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic nomination has finally managed to unravel the conundrum of so-called Russian ‘interference’ in the 2016 election — it’s so simple you won’t believe it.

Tweeting out her discovery, Kamala Harris explained that Russia was “able to influence” the last presidential election because it “figured out” that “racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and transphobia are America’s Achilles heel.”

Armed with this top secret information, Russia was “able” to turn Americans against each other in a way never before seen in history (if you conveniently forget most of history, that is).

CAP

Now, you might be thinking, if it was that easy for the Russians to take a glimpse at the various domestic tensions plaguing the US in 2016 and then use the information to (allegedly) throw an election, why didn’t the Kremlin act before now? Surely, if it was so simple, Russia could have been choosing US presidents for decades?

Harris’s tweet was hailed as “important” and insightful commentary from some of her supporters and Russia-obsessed journalists, but was instantly mocked by more skeptically-minded individuals, some of whom took issue with the premise that Russia had affected the 2016 election at all.

CAP

Others joked that they thought hatred and prejudice had never existed in the US prior to Russia’s “intervention.” Some also suggested that the focus on Russia was a way to distract from the fact that Democrats lost the last election because Hillary Clinton ran a flawed campaign, rather than because of anything to do with Russia.

Somehow Russian influence didn’t matter “until Hillary lost,” another said.

CAP

Some people also took offence, as Harris’s comment appeared to be insulting Americans, implying that they are so “stupid” that “a bunch of Russians” can easily manipulate them on social media.

However, one tweet suggested that the real Achilles Heel was the fact that over 60,000 people read Harris’s tweet and hit the ‘like’ button.

Remember That Gay Couple Married by RBG? They Just Got Charged With Rape

The pair stands accused of raping a young man at a party in Houston.

By Peter D’Abrosca

Missing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg used her power as a justice of the peace to marry a gay couple in 2014.

Tuesday, that couple was charged with rape.

“David Daniels, 52, and his conductor husband Scott Walters, 37, were arrested in Michigan, where they live, on Tuesday night,” according to DailyMail.

RBG made headlines when she married the couple less than five years ago. A year later, the Supreme Court upheld a ruling that allowed gay marriage to become the law of the land.

The couple stands accused of raping Samuel Schultz after a performance in Houston in 2010, three years BEFORE their publicity stunt with Ginsburg. They will be extradited to Texas to face the charges.

“Schultz came forward last August with his allegations, waiving his anonymity as the possible victim of a sex crime to describe how the couple allegedly preyed on him. He reported his claims to the Houston Police Department at the same time,” according to the report.

He described a grizzly scene in which he blacked out after being offered a drink, only to wake up sore and bleeding.

“Daniels has been accused in the past of soliciting men on Grindr and was reported to police in 2017 for allegedly asking a man to perform a sex act through the app,” the report said. “He has also previously faced complaints from students at the University of Michigan, where he is a tenured professor including one who sued him in October.”

The University of Michigan has not fired him, but instead said it would “closely monitor the situation.”

HOLLYWOOD LIBERAL ELLEN PAGE SUGGESTS TRUMP, PENCE RESPONSIBLE FOR ATTACK ON EMPIRE ACTOR

Actress accuses president, vice president of spreading hate in Trump Derangement Syndrome breakdown

Hollywood Liberal Ellen Page Suggests Trump, Pence Responsible for Attack on Empire Actor

Unhinged actress Ellen Page accused President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence of spreading hatred toward gays, suggesting they’re responsible for the recent attack on Empire actor Jussie Smollett.

In an emotional breakdown on Thursday’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Page claimed Pence did not want her to be married to her lesbian spouse and blamed the Trump administration of stoking hate against the LGBTQ community.

“I’m like really fired up right now, but it feels impossible not to feel this way right now with the president and the vice president, Mike Pence, who wishes I could not be married, let’s just be clear,” Page said.

“The vice president of America wishes I didn’t have the love with my wife,” she continued. “He wanted to ban that in Indiana. He believes in conversion therapy, he has hurt LGBTQ people so badly as the governor of Indiana.”

“Connect the dots, this is what happens,” Page said, discussing Smollett who she admits she did not know on a personal level. “If you are in a position of power and you hate people and you want to cause suffering to them, you go through the trouble, you spend your career trying to cause suffering — what do you think is going to happen? Kids are going to be abused, and they’re going to kill themselves and people are going to be beaten on the street.”

Page cited her new show Gaycation for giving her a wider perspective on gay issues.

“I have traveled the world and I have met the most marginalized people you could meet,” she said. “I am lucky to have this time and the privilege to say this. This needs to f—ing stop.”

Smollett was allegedly attacked by two people earlier this week in Chicago in what police are investigating as a “hate crime.” The attackers, who reportedly had their faces covered, beat Smollett as they called him racist and gay slurs, threw a chemical substance on him, and put a rope around his neck.

Some reports claim the suspects yelled, “MAGA country!” during the attack, however those reports have not been substantiated.

Police are still combing through surveillance video of the area, but have yet to locate footage showing the attack. Chicago PD spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi claimed Smollett refused to turn his phone over to detectives.

President Trump on Thursday addressed the attack, saying, “That I can tell you is horrible.”

“It doesn’t get worse,” he added.

Hollywood Quick to Blame Trump Supporters for Alleged Hate Crime Against Liberal Gay Actor

By Kristine Marsh

The networks along with cable news Wednesday morning continued reporting on the alleged hate crime against black, gay Empire actor Jussie Smollett by Trump supporters, that he said happened at 2 AM Tuesday morning. Despite Chicago P.D. statingthat they have scoured through hundreds of hours of security camera footage and haven’t come up with any evidence supporting Smollett’s claims, Hollywood rushed to blame President Trump and the right for the attack.

Smollett, who also happens to be a liberal, anti-Trump activist, claimed that two white guys in ski masks beat him up, put a noose around his neck and scoured bleach on him, all the while shouting racial, homophobic slurs and saying “This is MAGA country.” In downtown Chicago, at frigid temperatures, at 2 AM in the morning. The only proof of this encounter thus far is the actor’s word, yet Hollywood came out to blast Trump and his followers on social media:

Activist and director Rob Reiner tweeted that Trump was to blame because he “injected hatred into the American bloodstream:”

Actor Billy Eichner tweeted that even if there was no proof, he still doesn’t doubt Trump supporters were capable of doing such a heinous act:

Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo directly blamed Trump followers for the attack, on her Instagram account, which has 5.9 million followers:

“These punks …these haters …who are filled with fear and insecurity who continue to spread hate and violence in the name of this administration must be called out at every turn,” she seethed.

Cher, with her ever-coherent ramblings tweeted blame at “NPR, VILLAINY, RACISM, HOMOPHOBIA, PROMOTED BY MOST INFAMOUS CLOWN IN WORLD IS THE POISON THAT KILLS AMERICANS WHITE ONLY IS NOT RIGHT…GOP GOES DOWN WITH SHIP.”

Fellow Empire actor Taraji P. Henson seemed to refer to Trump as “the devil” and his supporters, “his minions” in an Instagram post. She wrote, “I tell you one thing HATE WILL NOT WIN!!!! My baby is resilient and love still lives in him. The devil and his minions are very busy right now….”

Actress Regina King tweeted that hateful bigots were being “emboldened” right now:

Dozens more celebrities came out blasting America’s “hatred” towards gays and black people, while not name-dropping Trump or conservatives, specifically.

Democrats all came out with similar expressions of horror and disgust as well, some directly pointing fingers at Trump, such as anti-Semitic Democrat Rashida Tlaib, who blamed “the right wing:”

You would think the left would learn by now to let the facts come in before passing judgement, after how the media hyped the fake Covington narrative and the Buzzfeed “bombshell,” but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

NY TIMES RUNS DEFENSE FOR BLACK ANTI-SEMITIC HATE GROUP

NY Times Runs Defense For Black Anti-Semitic Hate Group

Allows members to justify their vile, racist abuse as “tough love”

Paul Joseph Watson | Infowars.com – JANUARY 24, 2019

The New York Times is running defense for the Black Israelites, the anti-Semitic hate group that abused the Covington High School students.

In an article entitled Hebrew Israelites See Divine Intervention in Lincoln Memorial Confrontation, the paper completely ignores the fact that the group called the Covington kids “white crackers,” “faggots,” incest kids” while also labeling them future school shooters and telling an African-American student that they would harvest his organs.

Instead, the piece, written by John Eligon, presents a sympathetic picture of the group, allowing one of its members to characterize what they do as “tough love”.

In reality, in addition to the racist and homophobic slurs the group was caught on camera hurling at children, members are known to hold overtly disgusting views.

Even the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center lists the organization as a hate group, warning that members “believe that Jews are devilish impostors and … openly condemn whites as evil personified, deserving only death or slavery.”

Despite the odious nature of the group, the NY Times piece gives them a cultural cache by noting that they were “name-checked by Kendrick Lamar in a rap called “Yah”.

The article also serves as a platform for the group to justify their actions, with several members quoted at length without being challenged.

One wonders whether a white supremacist group would have been treated with such kid gloves.

National Journal editor Josh Kraushaar denounced the article in a series of tweets, arguing that “the Black Israelites get a more sympathetic hearing than the Covington High students.”

screen shot 2019-01-24 at 10.30.22 am

“*Some say* they’re a hate group, but they’re also name-checked by a rapper. let’s call the whole thing off,” joked Kraushaar.

Newly-elected Omar draws accusations of ‘unbelievable’ bigotry and anti-Semitism

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.31.50 am

Newly-elected Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar found herself in the spotlight, not for passing legislation, but for defending herself against accusations of homophobia, bigotry, and anti-Semitism from all sides.

Omar’s victory in November was a milestone for identity politics. But even as the first Somali-American and one of two Muslim women elected to Congress last year, accusations of intolerance have dogged her first days in office.

In a tweet posted Tuesday, Omar shared a video of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) denouncing then-candidate Trump in 2015. Now, with Graham a reliable supporter of Trump in the Senate, Omar suggested “They got to him, he is compromised!”

Omar did not say exactly how Graham was “compromised,” or by who, but her tweet came days after a slew of accusations by others that Graham is secretly gay, or involved in sexual kink or misconduct, and that information is being used by Trump as leverage against him.

The same day Omar posted her tweet, MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle suggested Graham had about-turned on his opposition to Trump, because “Donald Trump knows something pretty extreme about Lindsey Graham.” On Saturday, ‘Avengers’ actor Chris Evans slammed Graham for his “shameful 180,” and called the South Carolina Republican “Smithers,” a reference to Mr. Burns’ lickspittle assistant and closeted homosexual in ‘The Simpsons’.

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.35.25 am

Democratic operative Jon Cooper suggested the following day that Graham is kowtowing to Trump (and indirectly Putin),” because of “some pretty serious sexual kink.”

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.37.39 am

Appearing on CNN Thursday, Omar defended her tweet, but did not directly address Graham’s sexuality.

“So, I am pretty sure that there is something happening with him,” she told CNN’s Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto. “He is somehow compromised to no longer stand up for the truth,” Omar continued, adding that “the evidence really is present to us.”

Pressed on what exactly this evidence is, Omar replied that “It’s being presented to us in the way that he is behaving,” and that her tweet “was just an opinion based on what I believe to be visible to me – and I’m pretty sure there are lots of Americans who agree on this.”

Omar was swiftly called out, first by CNN’s S.E. Cupp, who called her comments “ignorant, homophobic and unacceptable.”

“Here we have Ilhan Omar, a sitting Congresswoman, floating around a conspiracy theory with absolutely zero evidence that Lindsey Graham is secretly gay and the GOP is holding him hostage,” wrote Republican strategist Caleb Hull. “Unbelievable.”

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.40.55 am

Embroiled in one scandal already, Omar was also pressed by Sciutto about a 2012 tweet sent during an eight-day conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in Gaza.

“Israel has hypnotized the world,” she wrote at the time. “May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.42.55 am

In her CNN appearance, Omar stood by her tweet. “I don’t know how my comments would be offensive to Jewish Americans,” she said. “My comments precisely are addressing what was happening during the Gaza war, and I am clearly speaking about the way the Israeli regime was conducting itself in that war.”

Republicans and Jewish Americans were offended. New York Rep. Lee Zeldin (R), who is Jewish, tweeted that “instead of the Dems supporting Israel & combating BDS & anti-Semitism on college campuses & elsewhere, they’re now empowering it.”

screen shot 2019-01-18 at 11.45.20 am

Omar has spoken in support of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement against Israel before, and was recently assigned a seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she will vote on issues of US foreign policy and foreign aid, including that to Israel. Crucially, her committee may soon vote on a bipartisan bill that would write into law a 2016 agreement between the US and Israel guaranteeing the Jewish state $38 billion in military aid over 10 years.

“Anti-Semitism has no place in Congress and certainly not on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. I am deeply disappointed in Speaker Pelosi’s choice, a choice that threatens the Committee’s long history of bipartisan support for Israel,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Louisiana) said in a statement on Thursday.

With two firestorms raging, Omar’s Congressional career has gotten off to a bumpy start. However, the Minnesota lawmaker is standing her ground against the criticism. As well as defending her anti-Israel statement, Omar stood by her accusations against Graham.

“The Right thinks being homosexual is ‘compromising,’” she tweeted later on Thursday. “Y’all know my tweet had nothing to do with his sexuality and everything to do with his blind cooperation w/ Trump.”
