U.S. Marshal Killed By Rioter in Front of Las Vegas Courthouse

An armed rioter may have been targeting law enforcement.

8 News Now Metro of Las Vegas is reporting that a U.S. Marshal has been killed after being shot in the head during Monday’s race riots.

Reports emerged late on Monday that a U.S. Marshal had been killed during a shootout with an armed rioter near the city’s federal courthouse.

8 News Now originally reported that the marshal had been shot in the head. The shooting death appeared to take place after the evening’s protest and riot activities had been contained by law enforcement, perhaps suggesting that an armed rioter intentionally targeted law enforcement in the shooting.

Video footage of the Las Vegas strip continued to show a major police presence well into the night.

Other law enforcement officers have been killed in the nationwide race riots following the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd, but it appears as if the riots have taken a decidedly bloodthirsty turn after the shooting death of the federal law enforcement officer.

The situation continues to develop, and Big League Politics is closely analyzing the situation.

Gov. Cuomo Quietly Makes It a Felony For N.Y. Officials to Share Illegal Alien Driver Info With ICE

Shocking amendment to Green Light Law slipped into budget bill during virus crisis

Wednesday, May 27, 2020

New York State officials who provide information about illegal alien drivers to federal immigration enforcement agencies can now face felony charges.

An amendment to the highly controversial ‘Green Light Law,’ which went into effect in December and cleared illegal aliens to apply for New York State driver’s licenses, was slipped into the state’s 2020 budget bill and signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in April, in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

It is now a Class E felony for state officials, such as law enforcement officers, to disclose DMV records with agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“Border Patrol for example, working the highway in the middle of the night and pulls over a vehicle, they can’t run the plates to determine who owns that vehicle,” U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York J.P. Kennedy told WKBW. “I think it’s legislating obstruction and it’s very concerning to me.”

“We’ve seen how important communication and coordination in coming up with a response to the pandemic and sort of causing people to work in isolation it’s a recipe for disaster,” Kennedy continued. “I’m very concerned about this and I think it’s very unfortunate and makes me really question the motives of the individuals that enacted this law, if their professed interest in public safety and public health is really as important as they say they are.”

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns says the new budget bill “basically criminalize[s]” police work.

“This is shocking. This is unheard of — and especially during a pandemic — that someone, the governor, who is under so much pressure, thought about that to put that in there.”

COLORADO COLLEGES DOLE OUT BIG BUCKS TO ILLEGALS DURING CRISIS

Higher education redistributing taxpayer dollars to illegal aliens

By Eduardo Neret – May 19, 2020

As millions of Americans struggle with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, a number of Colorado colleges and universities are providing aid to illegal immigrants and international students.

The Trump administration previously issued guidance barring these students from receiving funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

According to a report in the Denver Post, the institutions are providing aid to illegal immigrants from other sources.

Colorado State University spent $600,000 to provide $1,500 grants to 400 students. Of these students, 218 were illegal immigrants. The remaining students were those who otherwise did not qualify for CARES Act aid, such as international students. In a statement to Newsweek, CSU spokesman Mike Hooker said that funding for the grants came from “accessing state, institutional, and private funding sources.”

Metropolitan State University of Denver is raising $300,000 for students who are recipients of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The school claims the money will be disbursed in payments ranging from $250 to $650 based on need.

The University of Colorado has a relief fund specifically for students who do not qualify for federal or state aid as well. A website for the fund states DACA students “will receive preference” for the financial aid, which can reach up to $1,000.

David North, a fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies, told Campus Reform that while he has “no trouble” giving grant money to legal immigrants, he is “totally opposed” to grant money for illegal immigrant students.

“No one in illegal status should be PAID to stay in this country,” North said. “Though many of these students are decent human beings, there should be no reward system for lawbreakers, with a single exception. An undocumented student in a U.S. college who wants to return to the nation of origin should be given a one-way plane ticket, and maybe $500 (in a check cashable only in the home country and only cashable after 60 days in that country).”

CSU received more than $17 million in federal funding from the CARES Act, more than $8 million of which is allocated for direct student assistance. Similarly, UC received more than $36 million across all of its campuses, with more than $18 million meant directly for students.

MSU received more than $14 million in federal funding, with more than $7 million meant to be allocated to students.

Pelosi’s Latest $3 Trillion Stimulus Plan Is Unlawful — Supreme Court Decision 10 DAYS AGO Makes it a Felony to Give Free Cash to Illegal Aliens

By Jim Hoft – May 18, 2020

The Supreme Court unanimously upheld a federal law struck down by an appeals court that forbids encouraging illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. unlawfully in a decision Thursday.

The Supreme Court ruled on the law on May 7, 2020, ten days ago.

That ruling was just 10 Days ago!

But that didn’t stop Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats from passing a $3 trillion spending bill that gives illegal aliens in American $1,200 stimulus check!

Los Angeles County to Extend Stay-at-Home Order for 3 More Months

Los Angeles County officials are eyeing “with all certainty” to extend its stay-at-home order for three more months as part of an effort to combat the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, reports The Los Angeles Times.

Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, told the county’s Board of Supervisors that officials are likely to extend the stay-at-home efforts through July and said the country’s “hope is that by using the data, we’d be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months.”

“Without widely available therapeutic testing for the coronavirus or rapid at-home tests that would allow people to test themselves daily, it seems unlikely that restrictions would be completely eased,” notes the Times.

The report comes after officials announced Monday that the county’s beaches will reopen with restrictions. Visitors will be required to engage in social distancing and wear face coverings on the sand.

“Beginning on Wednesday, May 13, beaches operated by Los Angeles County, including those in Manhattan Beach, will be reopened with restrictions for limited active uses with physical distancing as a requirement,” said a press release.

“Following numerous discussions and meetings with Los Angeles County, I am excited that one of our most valued resources, the beach, will once again be accessible to the public,” Manhattan Beach Mayor Richard Montgomery said in a separate statement.

As of Tuesday, Los Angeles County has 32,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,569 deaths. California has 67,939 cases and 2,770 fatalities, according to data tracked via Johns Hopkins University.

On Friday, California began to loosen restrictions for certain businesses to reopen, such as select retailers with curbside pickup and clothing stores. However, shopping malls, offices, gyms, and dine-in restaurants still remain closed.

UNIVERSITY GIVING CORONAVIRUS AID MONEY TO ILLEGALS

University Giving Coronavirus Aid Money to Illegals

School received nearly $40 million in federal bailout

By Arik Schneider – May 8, 2020

After the recent Department of Education guidelines clarified that federal funds through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act should not be distributed by colleges to illegal immigrants, the University of Washington announced plans to give money to illegal immigrant students through other “non-federal” means.

Students who were ineligible to receive federal grants due to their immigration status were invited by UW to apply for separate funding.

Students were told approval would be automatic if they had already submitted their Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WAFSA). One study estimated the total number of illegal immigrant students in Washington State at 13,000.

WAFSA is a Washington program for illegal immigrants, who are largely ineligible for federal funding. It is unknown how much money will be distributed through the program. UW received $39.7 million in federal CARES Act funding.

“While the U.S. Department of Education does not allow CARES funding to provide grants to undocumented students,” UW said on its website, “the UW will provide grants to undocumented students who meet the same criteria for eligibility and greatest financial need as those students receiving a UW CARES Act Relief grant. These grants are funded by non-federal sources. The grant amounts are $1,200 per student and $1,700 for students with dependents.”

“We are so grateful for your commitment to your degree programs and the empathy and compassion you have demonstrated, even as you face uncertainty about your own futures,” President Ana Mari Cauce wrote in a school email to students eligible for the CARES Act grants. “We are doing everything within our means to support you as you pursue your degrees.”

But not all are on board with giving money to illegal immigrant students. UW student Esther Grang told Campus Reform, “It feels like UW is following the letter of the law, but not the spirit,” adding “I don’t particularly care that the university is sending out checks, but if they could do it for one group of students, why not everyone?”

The move by UW comes as leftist groups have been critical of the Trump administration for issuing guidance saying the funds cannot be distributed to illegal immigrant students.

The aid money for UW illegals is not technically federal funding, but as Heritage Foundation senior adviser for executive branch relations Mike Howell previously told Campus Reform, “it’s all fungible money, so every dollar that goes to an illegal alien is a dollar that a US citizen is not getting.”

When asked to provide details on where the funding came from, UW simply responded, “non-federal sources.”

Coronavirus Update: Already Struggling Small Businesses In South Bay Being Targeted By Robbers

By Devin Fehely – April 8, 2020

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) — Several restaurants and small businesses in the South Bay say they have recently been targeted by thieves trying to take advantage of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order.

“They walked out with kind of the heart of the restaurant a,s far as the financial aspect of it. It’s your monetary income,” said Dan Holder, owner of Jack Holder’s Restaurant and Bar in San Jose’s Cambrian neighborhood.

Holder said his employees arrived Sunday morning and discovered that someone had smashed out a window on the side of the business and stolen several tablets and other items.

“The immediate reaction was, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ You come into work on Sunday morning knowing that some lowlife has broken into your place of business and stolen valued possessions from you,” said Holder.

He said the break-in was especially painful because just two days prior he’d organized a meal giveaway for police officers, firefighters and other first responders in San Jose.

And sadly, Jack Holder’s Restaurant wasn’t alone. Another neighboring business, West Coast Beef Company, was the victim of a similar robbery a few weeks earlier. The thieves managed to steal the cash register and a safe during the earlier break-in.

“Another horrible part to the story with the shelter-in-place order is that small businesses are really being left out on a limb and now being victimized,” said West Coast Beef Company owner John Ladas.

Ladas said the owner of the shopping center has agreed to step up security patrols especially during the overnight hours.

The San Jose Police Department told KPIX 5 it still has the full number of officers on the street during the shelter-in-place order and will aggressively investigate reports of break-ins. Detectives were able to recover some of the items stolen during the break-in at Jack Holder’s.

“They were able to actually find my DoorDash tablet,” Holder said, referring to a tablet used for to-go orders for the DoorDash app — an essential part of the restaurant’s business during the lockdown.

Luckily, the tablet was undamaged and is back in operation at the restaurant. Some small business owners told KPIX 5 they would like authorities to consider — at the very least — tougher penalties for those arrested in connection with break-ins and burglaries during the current coronavirus shelter in place order.
