Midterm madness shows US media more divisive than the American people

As witnessed by the midterm elections, the US is cracking up along political and cultural lines. The mainstream media must accept a large part of the blame for this dangerous period of partisanship that only promises to worsen.

Ever since Donald Trump crashed the White House, the US media has dropped all pretensions of being a fair and impartial observer of the political scene. The gloves of objectiveness have come off and journalists now compete in the political ring as full combatants, as opposed to neutral ringside announcers reporting the action as it happens.

That much was proven on Monday, the day before midterms, when popular Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro appeared on stage with Trump at a political rally in the blood-red state of Missouri. This stunt unleashed the predictable howls of protest from sea to shining sea.

“By taking part in the rally, Mr. Hannity was crossing the line that had traditionally separated those in the news media… from the people they are supposed to cover,” The New York Times wailed. “Fox News entered new territory — a thicket in which it’s hard to tell where the network ends and the president begins.”

Capture

Although it was surreal to see Hannity at a rally stumping for the Republicans (a move that Fox News said it did not condone, calling it an “unfortunate distraction”) it was not surprising given the guerrilla-style reporting that passes for journalism these days. Media partisanship has delivered a broadside to the US political system, and the fact that there are media trenches in the first place explains everything we need to know.

Even before Trump got elected, the mainstream media was priming its audiences to disavow the maverick from Manhattan. Did this have anything to with his promise to ‘drain the swamp’ known as Washington, DC? It is a very tantalizing explanation. Whatever the case may be, the left-leaning media organized and published stunningly flawedmedia polls predicting a landslide victory for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

As we now know, just the opposite transpired as Trump sailed to easy victory. The half-deranged disappointment felt by the Democrats was intensified by the unsubstantiated claim that Russia – not the American voter – was responsible for putting Trump into the Oval Office.

That fantastic media story, which can best be described as the conspiracy theory of the century (admittedly, the century is young), snowballed into an FBI investigation known as ‘Russiagate’. Entering its second year, this media-inflamed show trial – starring a colorful cast of porn stars and Ukraine-linked businessmen – has failed to produce a shred of evidence pointing to collaboration between Trump and the Kremlin. Yet the Mueller show grinds on, driving a wedge between Americans, while bringing relations with Russia to the boiling point. And lest we forget, while peddling the ‘Russia meddling’ smokescreen, the media was able to ignore the explosive claim that Hillary Clinton used her personal computer to send and receive top secret government emails, which was the real story all along.

At this point, battle lines between the Trump administration and the mainstream media were drawn in the sand. The Republican leader, assaulted on a daily basis by every tentacle of America’s six-headed media monster, understandably began denigrating it as ‘fake news’. This led to some very intense press conferences, especially with CNN, which many on the right have come to call the ‘Clinton News Network’.

Although I admit the 45th president of the United States may have some character flaws, I fail to understand why the media has declared a permanent open season on this man. After all, like it or not, Trump won the election fair and square. And let’s give credit where credit is deserved: there are no wars (yet) on the horizon, while the economy, stupid, is roaring. Nevertheless, fair, balanced and objective news reporting has been jettisoned in favor of fantasy. This radical flight from fancy is at least partially responsible not only for the political psychosis that has attacked the nation’s frontal lobe, but for leading the country to the very doorstep of civil war.

In the not-so-distant past, the media could be counted upon to tame the more impulsive reactions of the electorate, blunting controversy with reasoned argument and substantiated reporting. Today, by comparison, it is the media that is responsible for inflaming the passions of the dual constituencies.

An ideal solution to this media mayhem, where the Republicans and Democrats both enjoy their own private propaganda services – is to let journalists from Fox News and CNN labor together inside of the same four walls. I only slightly jest. But think about it. Such a move would help encourage what is so missing today in the torched media landscape: the eradication of barriers and meeting the ‘enemy’ for face-to-face debate. Today, the media seems to be arguing for argument’s sake, not for the sake of promoting the public good.

The bifurcation of the mainstream media into two hostile camps exactly mirrors what is happening in society at large. This is no coincidence. Voters from both sides of the political aisle (the fact that there are only two political sides to choose from also greatly complicates the situation) have barricaded themselves inside of an electric moat known as ‘social media’, which is in reality anything but social. Each side hunkers down behind their Facebook and Twitter accounts, lobbing the occasional verbal grenade from inside their heavily defended echo chambers. The media is equally guilty of such behavior with all of the disastrous consequences we are experiencing today.

In such a sheltered and bitter world, there is no chance for honest conversation among the people nor the media. Political debate has been reduced to short and snarky 280-character ripostes, while the walls between the two camps continue to grow higher. Those inside the media world, where subjective passions must take a backseat to objective reporting, should have resisted the temptation to take sides in the political debate. Instead, they now finds themselves serving as mere pawns on one or the other side of the great game. The public can see through the ridiculous charade, which only damages the credibility of the mainstream legacy media.

This dangerous new development, where the media and the people are split into parallel universes or alternative realities, each clinging to their own false narratives, can only end in disaster for America’s great experiment in democracy.

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigns from DOJ on Trump’s request

US President Donald Trump has requested – and received – the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The Department of Justice will be led by his chief of staff Matthew Whitaker until a permanent replacement is nominated.

“We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well!” Trump said on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, after announcing the appointment of Whitaker.

Capture

There is a potential problem with Whitaker’s appointment over the head of the current deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, who has been in charge of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia “collusion” during the 2016 presidential election. Rosenstein was confirmed to his post by the Senate, whereas Whitaker was not.

Also, Whitaker would be taking over from Rosenstein the oversight of the Mueller investigation.

“The Acting Attorney General is in charge of all matters under the purview of the Department of Justice,” DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told reporters on Wednesday.

The sacking of Sessions and the appointment of Whitaker have alarmed Democrats, who are concerned that Trump is making moves to shut down the Mueller probe. Prior to becoming Sessions’ chief of staff in September 2017, Whitaker worked as a legal commentator for CNN, and at one point argued that Mueller’s investigation was becoming a “witch hunt.”

Capture

There have already been calls by Democrats in Congress for Whitaker to recuse himself from the Russia probe.

Capture

Sessions, a senator from Alabama at the time, joined the Trump campaign early on and was considered a favorite to take over the Department of Justice in the new administration. He was immediately forced to recuse himself from any probes into “Russiagate,” due to his role in the campaign, however.

Since then, Trump has frequently clashed with Sessions over the DOJ’s handling of the Russia probe. The DOJ’s refusal to comply with congressional oversight requests to turn over documents related to the FBI’s spying on the Trump campaign also caused increasing frustration at the White House, prompting the president to declare at one point, “I have no attorney general!”

“I’m not happy at the border, I’m not happy with numerous things,” including the Russia probe, Trump told The Hill in September. “I’m very disappointed in Jeff. Very disappointed.”

Sessions has maintained his loyalty to Trump and the president’s law and order agenda, even in the resignation letter.

Capture

With Republicans picking up seats in the Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections, despite losing a majority in the House of Representatives, Trump was widely expected to reshuffle his Cabinet in the near future, though the speed with which Sessions was ushered out was unexpected in Washington.

Here Come The Crazies! Nancy Pelosi As Speaker, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, Elijah Cummings In Leadership Roles

By Joseph Curl

President Trump just got an early Christmas present.

Fox News and NBC called the House at 9:30 pm. EDT, declaring that Democrats have taken control of the chamber. So yes, Trump’s Republican Party has lost control of the U.S. House of Representatives, as predicted, but Democrats could well install Rep. Nancy Pelosi as the new Speaker — and that’s a gift that just keeps on giving.

The 78-year-old Democrat from California, who was House Speaker from 2007 until the GOP took control of the chamber in 2011, is poised to resume that powerful position — and she wants it.

“I feel very confident in the support that I have in the House Democratic Caucus, and my focus is on winning this election because so much is at stake,” Pelosi told reporters in July. Just this month, she told The Washington Post: “Nobody is indispensable. But I do think that I am best qualified to take us into the future, protect the Affordable Care Act, to do our infrastructure bill and the rest. Stepping down this path, I know the ropes.”

And Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said a few days ago: “I expect Nancy Pelosi will be Speaker, and I believe that she will be Speaker until she decides to leave.”

Pelosi is a career politician who has already served 16 terms in the House, but some party leaders wish she’d go away.

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) said late last year it was time for Pelosi — and other longtime party leaders — to depart and let a new generation lead House Democrats. “Our leadership does a tremendous job, but we do have this real breadth and depth of talent within our caucus and I do think it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders,” Sanchez said.

But Pelosi wants the gavel, and while some political watchers say there’ll be a fight, many predict she’ll get it.

Meanwhile, Rep. Maxine Waters, another California Democrat and one who has repeatedly called for Trump’s impeachment, could soon control her own committee — which would yield her the power to subpoena and control the fate of legislation.

Waters, 80, could become chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee, where she currently serves as ranking member. The committee oversees the housing, banking, insurance, and securities industries, and Waters has offered big plans if she can bag the job.

“Last August, Waters moved unsuccessfully to subpoena Deutsche Bank AG for records concerning ‘internal reviews of the personal accounts of the President and his family,’ as well as more information about fees levied against the bank concerning lax money-laundering detection policies that could have allowed Russian operatives to funnel cash without a paper trail,” Fox News reported.

Waters, a career politician once named one of the most corrupt in Congress, has gone off the deep end since Trump’s election. “He claims that’s bringing people together but make no mistake, he is a dangerous, unprincipled, divisive, and shameful racist,” Waters said in February.

See the source image

Then there’s Rep. Adam Schiff, a true Trump hater who is beloved by the mainstream media.

Another California Democrat, Schiff could likely rise to chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, where he is now the ranking member.

Schiff, 58, said in an interview with CNN that the committee would “investigate questions involving Russian money laundering and President Donald Trump’s businesses.” Schiff said his committee would work in tandem with Waters’ focus on potential money-laundering schemes involving the Trump campaign and Russia, saying he’ll back Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe into alleged collusion.

“The question, though, that I don’t know whether Mueller has been able to answer — because I don’t know whether he’s been given the license to look into it — is were the Russians laundering money through the Trump Organization?” Schiff said. “And that will be a very high priority to get an answer to — for the reason that, if they were doing this, it’s not only a crime, but it’s something provable.”

Then there’s Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who would be poised to take over the House Judiciary Committee. Nadler could work with Schiff to oversee any attempt to impeach Trump.

Nadler, 71, was on the committee when it voted to impeach former President Bill Clinton, but he said then that the vote was an attempted coup and a “gross abuse” of the impeachment power. He apparently doesn’t think that any more.

“If the president perjured himself about colluding with Russians, that would be worthy of impeachment,” Nadler said in September. “Perjury about some real estate deal that happened 10 years ago that the Trump Organization took, that would not be an impeachable offense. It would be a crime.”

And Cummings, one of the most partisan members of the House, could well take over the House Oversight Committee, where he is now ranking Democrat. Cummings has said Trump “is a person [who] calls a lie ‘the truth’ and the truth ‘a lie.’” And the Democrat has vowed to conduct investigations into the president. “If I can get documents, it doesn’t matter.”

“Cummings is prepping targets — from the security clearances of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, to digging into how former EPA chief Scott Pruitt was able to keep his job for so long—and the list is getting longer by the week,” Politico reported on Oct. 2.

But back to Pelosi. Throughout the 2018 midterms, Republicans have sought to connect Democratic candidates to Pelosi — they’ve run more than 250 anti-Pelosi TV ads in some 75 House districts during the last months of the campaign. That’s forced some candidates to repudiate Pelosi.

For Trump, though, losing the House — but getting Pelosi back as a target for 2020 — is a dream come true. And he knows it.

CNN’S TAPPER: HOUSE DEMOCRATS ‘GOING TO MAKE TRUMP’S LIFE A LIVING HELL’

CNN's Tapper: House Democrats 'Going To Make Trump's Life A Living Hell'

President Trump’s response: ‘Two can play that game!’

 | Infowars.com – NOVEMBER 7, 2018

The new Democrat majority in the House of Representatives is determined to make President Trump’s life “a living hell,” according to CNN’s Jake Tapper.

“The bottom line is this is not a good night for President Trump,” Tapper said Tuesday. “The Democrats have just retaken the House, and they’re going to have subpoena power, and they’re going to make his life a living hell. That’s the bottom line.”

“But he did manage to hold onto the Senate,” CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said. “When it comes to the Senate, huge success for the President of the United States.”

Democrat leadership threatened to throw everything they have at Trump if they won the House, including reopening the phony Russia probe, investigating Trump’s tax returns, the Trump Foundation, his firing of ex-FBI Director James Comey, his payments to lawyer Michael Cohen, his administration’s hurricane response to Puerto Rico, the Middle East travel ban, and more.

Trump has already warned House Democrats on Twitter that issuing frivolous subpoenas will be met in kind.

“If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!” he tweeted Wednesday.

70,000 Migrants Preparing to Swarm Europe Via “Soros Express,” Hungary Warns

By Dan Lyman

A mass of 70,000 migrants has gathered in the Balkans where they are preparing to swarm Europe via the “Soros Express,” Hungarian officials are warning.

Hungary announced it has mobilized 2,300 troops to be deployed to its southern border on short notice as thousands of migrants threaten to penetrate into Croatia from Bosnia, where they have been accumulating for months and are now actively engaging Croatian border forces in violent clashes.

“What happened on the Bosnian-Croatian border, at Bihac, cannot be allowed to happen here,” Lajos Kósa, head of parliament’s defense and law enforcement committee, told reporters during a visit to the border.

State media outlet About Hungary paraphrased additional comments by Kósa, adding“NGOs organize illegal migration and a majority are financed by the likes of U.S. billionaire George Soros, which pave the way for the illegal entry of migrants into the EU on the Bosnian-Croatian border.”

“Kósa confirmed that at present there are about 70,000 migrants heading for western Europe waiting along the Balkan route.”

Hungarian parliamentary spokesman Istvan Hollik compared the current situation in the Balkans to the slew of migrant ‘caravans’ making their way from Central America to the U.S., asserting that both are being spurred onward financially by the “Soros Express” as a “dress rehearsal” for eventual endless,  migration from the third world into the West.

“The Soros network is working hard to resettle migrants not only in Europe, but in the U.S., bringing in thousands on the ‘Soros Express,'” Hungary Journal reported, paraphrasing Hollik. “By grabbing the attention of the international media, they want to provoke U.S. authorities, creating conflict, just as they did when migrants rioted in Roszke, on Hungary’s border with Serbia, in 2015, then get the U.S. authorities to surrender their right to protect the border, he added.”

Infowars Europe has been reporting extensively on the mounting crisis in the Balkans and will continue to monitor events as they unfold.

Belgian Catholic church to broadcast Islamic call to prayer during ‘concert of peace’

This Sunday a large cathedral in the Belgian city of Mechelen will broadcast the Islamic call to prayer, newspaper HLN reports.

Five Belgian choirs with 180 singers will take part in the ceremony. “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace” of British composer Karl Jenkins will be played.

The concert is announced also as a visual spectacle as there will be footage that was specially selected for the performance.

The Islamic call to prayer is part of the concert in the cathedral. “With this remembrance concert we want to make a universal call for peace, justice and humanity for everybody,” the organiser says.

Apart from the Islamic call to prayer, the Jewish Kaddisj will also be played in the Catholic church. All tickets for the concert have already been sold out.

ABRAMS: BANNING GUNS NO DIFFERENT THAN BANNING RADAR DETECTORS

Abrams: Banning Guns No Different Than Banning Radar Detectors

Ga. governor candidate previously said some Georgians may have to “turn their guns in”

 | Infowars.com – NOVEMBER 6, 2018

Ga. governor candidate Stacey Abrams equated banning guns to banning radar detectors.

“I support a law that will ban ‘assault weapons,’” the Democrat stated on CNN. “And just as when we banned radar detection, for example, some people turned in their devices, some people kept them and just refused to use them anymore.”

But she suggested her gun control policies would be stricter than a radar detector ban.

“Weapons are more dangerous, they are more vulnerable to misuse, and I do think in the state of Georgia we are going to have to figure out how we do this,” she continued.

However, the Democratic candidate, who previously co-sponsored a gun ban bill in Georgia’s House, stopped short of explaining how exactly her confiscation program would be enforced.

Her comments follow her statement on Sunday in which she said her gun control proposals may force some Georgians to “turn their guns in.”

“AR-15s are not necessary on our streets; semiautomatic weapons have to be put under a certain level of responsible control,” she said in another interview on Sunday.

The most popular ‘concealed carry’ handguns on the market today are all semi-automatics.

The bill she co-sponsored in 2016, HB 731, would have required Georgians to surrender a vast variety of firearms.

ILLEGAL “VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRAT” SIGN POSTED AT POLLING STATION IN PITTSBURGH

Illegal "VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRAT" Sign Posted at Polling Station in Pittsburgh

Sign is a violation of law prohibiting campaign material closer than 150 feet

 | Infowars.com – NOVEMBER 6, 2018

Video footage out of Pittsburgh shows illegal campaign material appearing at a polling station.

The clip shows a sign that reads “VOTE STRAIGHT DEMOCRAT” posted on the door leading into the building.

The sign appeared at a polling station in war 19 of district 19 in Pittsburgh.

“THIS IS ELECTION TAMPERING,” writes the Twitter user who posted the original video. “I was sent this video by a friend who wishes to remain anonymous, I have blurred the reflections to obscure their identity. The attendant told this person “Don’t go making a fool of yourself”, after they complained… THIS MUST GO VIRAL.”

The user then added that the people working inside of the polling station were aware of the sign and that it was illegal, but didn’t care.

Every state has laws that create campaign-free buffer zones around polling stations, with the partisan material being prohibited closer than 150 feet of a polling station.

Facebook Blocks 115 Accounts for ‘Coordinated Inauthentic Behavior’ Ahead of Midterm Elections

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 10: Facebook co-founder, Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifies before a combined Senate Judiciary and Commerce committee hearing in the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill April 10, 2018 in Washington, DC. Social media giant Facebook has blocked 115 accounts suspected of “coordinated inauthentic behavior” across both Facebook and Instagram ahead of the midterm elections.

ABC News reports that ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, Facebook has blocked a number of accounts across both Facebook and Instagram. In a blog post the company stated: “On Sunday evening, U.S. law enforcement contacted us about online activity that they recently discovered and which they believe may be linked to foreign entities,” said Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy Nathaniel Gleicher. “We immediately blocked these accounts and are now investigating them in more detail.”

The company reportedly blocked 30 accounts on Facebook and another 85 on Instagram. The blocked Facebook pages reportedly communicated mainly in French and Russian although the majority of accounts on Instagram were English-speaking. “Typically, we would be further along with our analysis before announcing anything publicly,” Gleicher said. “But given that we are only one day away from important elections in the U.S., we wanted to let people know about the action we’ve taken and the facts as we know them today.”

Gleicher said that the company will provide more information when it’s available, stating: “Once we know more — including whether these accounts are linked to the Russia-based Internet Research Agency or other foreign entities — we will update this post.”

Facebook recently opened an election “War Room” designed to help the company curb the spread of misinformation online ahead of the midterm elections. “Finding and removing abuse is a constant challenge. Our adversaries are smart and well funded, and as we improve their tactics change,” the company said in a statement from October. “We prohibit coordinated inauthentic behavior on Facebook because we want people who use our services to be able to trust the connections they make.”

Facebook isn’t the only social media platform cracking down on accounts ahead of the midterms, Breitbart News reported yesterday that Twitter deleted as many as 10,000 accounts at the request of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, a party group that supports Democrats running for the U.S. House of Representatives.
