Unions withhold support for economy-destroying scheme

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Labor unions say they are withholding support for a Green New Deal unveiled by Democrats last week to transition the American economy away from fossil fuels, arguing the loosely-defined plan could kill jobs if its architects aren’t careful.

The cool response from unions underscores the challenge facing Democratic presidential hopefuls who support aggressive action on climate change but must also win back the blue-collar voters that swept President Donald Trump to victory in 2016.

The Green New Deal is a non-binding Congressional resolution introduced by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Edward Markey that would legislate government-led investment in clean energy infrastructure with the goal of making America carbon neutral within a decade.

Democratic presidential hopeful Senators Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren have already thrown their support behind it.

The resolution’s backers say the plan – once fully sketched out in the legislation – would create jobs in much the same way as President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal of the 1930s by putting Americans to work on transformative government-led projects.

It also calls for a “just transition” for current fossil fuel workers – from coal miners to pipeline workers – through guarantees of healthcare, jobs, and job training.

Union officials told Reuters they were skeptical.

“We will never settle for ‘just transition’ language as a solution to the job losses that will surely come from some of the policies in the resolution,” said Yvette Pena O’Sullivan, executive director of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), whose members work in construction and other industries.

Phil Smith, a spokesman for the United Mine Workers (UMWA), which represents workers in the coal industry, echoed the concerns.

“We’ve heard words like ‘just transition’ before, but what does that really mean? Our members are worried about putting food on the table,” he said.

LIUNA and UMWA said they were not contacted for input on the resolution before it was released.

Sean McGarvey, president of the North America’s Building Trades Unions, representing construction workers across all sectors including energy, said his staff had been contacted by Markey’s office about the Green New Deal, but said his members are skeptical of “green job” promises.

Members “working in the oil and gas sector can make a middle-class living, whereas renewable energy firms have been less generous,” he said at a pipeline safety event last week.

APPALACHIAN BACKLASH

Democrats backing the resolution are seeking to highlight the contrast in their position with the Trump administration’s vocal support for drilling and mining and its skepticism about the causes and impacts of global warming.

Trump’s approach was warmly received in 2016 in parts of Appalachia and the Rust Belt, which have been suffering from manufacturing and mining jobs losses.

Trump’s Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton struggled to sell her clean energy agenda in those regions, and suffered politically after saying her policies would “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

The Sunrise Movement, a youth organization backing the Green New Deal, plans to launch a multi-state campaign in March to drum up support, featuring stops in Michigan, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

“A lot of places struggling with joblessness are fossil fuel dependent places that suffer from poor air and water quality. Guaranteeing the right of clean air, water and jobs is something we think a lot of people can get behind,” said Stephen O’Hanlon, a spokesman for the group.

Unions have expressed support in the past for more moderate approaches to addressing climate change, including cap-and-trade systems to curb carbon dioxide emissions.

Ocasio-Cortez and Markey’s offices did not respond to a request for comment.

A U.S. Senator and 2020 presidential candidate vowed to avenge Hillary R. Clinton’s shocking 2016 loss to President Donald J. Trump on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” on Monday.

“We need to make sure the 2020 election is protected so that what happened to Hillary Clinton never happens again,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said.

Klobuchar was speaking in the context of “Russian interference” in the 2016 election, conspiracy theorizing that some sort of Russian-driven voter fraud cost Clinton the election. Maddow made no effort counter these wild claims, or to point out that Clinton lost because she was the least likable and most out-of-touch presidential candidate in recent American history who failed to campaign in Wisconsin. These are minor details to Democrats, who cannot accept the premise that they lost because ordinary Americans who live between New York and Los Angeles just aren’t that into them.

Speaking of unlikeable candidates, Klobuchar announced her candidacy outside, in near-blizzard conditions, just days after reports that her Senate staffer hated her.

Klobuchar, known for her nasty questioning of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his confirmation hearings last year, and particularly for her apparent disdain for his enjoyment of beer (ironically, she held a pre-announcement party with her staff at a local brewery Saturday night) has been embroiled in a bit of controversy for acting abusively towards her Senate staffers.

“At least three people have withdrawn from consideration to lead Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s nascent 2020 presidential campaign — and done so in part because of the Minnesota Democrat’s history of mistreating her staff,” a Wednesday report said.

But some former Klobuchar staffers, all of whom spoke to HuffPost on condition of anonymity, describe Klobuchar as habitually demeaning and prone to bursts of cruelty that make it difficult to work in her office for long.

It is common for staff to wake up to multiple emails from Klobuchar characterizing one’s work as “the worst” briefing or press release she’d seen in her decades of public service, according to two former aides and emails seen by HuffPost.

Although some staffers grew inured to her constant put-downs (“It’s always ‘the worst,’” one said sarcastically, “‘It was ‘the worst’ one two weeks ago”), others found it grinding and demoralizing. Adding to the humiliation, Klobuchar often cc’d large groups of staffers who weren’t working on the topic at hand, giving the emails the effect of a public flogging.

Video surveillance footage of the FBI raid on Roger Stone’s house appears to show authorities giving directions to awaiting CNN reporters before the arrest, prompting fresh speculation as to whether the news network was tipped off in advance.

Despite the road leading to Stone’s home being closed off at both ends, a CNN camera crew and reporters were allowed inside the bubble to catch events live as they unfolded. According to Stone, his neighbors who were out walking their dogs were told to go inside, but CNN was allowed to stay.

During an interview following the raid, CNN producer David Shortell admitted that he was “waiting” outside Roger Stone’s house at 5am, an hour before FBI agents and police arrived to arrest the former Donald Trump associate.

Shortell claimed that his “reporter’s instinct” was to thank and that he “thought maybe something was happening” because of “unusual Grand Jury activity in Washington DC yesterday”.

However, despite vigorous denials by CNN, questions continued to swirl.

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker suggested during his testimony earlier today before the House Judiciary Committee that CNN may have been tipped off to the FBI’s raid, promptingCNN justice correspondent Evan Perez to accuse Whitaker of “trying to give oxygen to a conspiracy”.

As we reported earlier, the surveillance footage itself was not released by Stone and was likely leaked by someone inside the House or Senate intelligence committee.

Roger Stone will be on the Alex Jones Show today to discuss latest developments.

CNN commentator calls Trump ‘antithesis of Christ’s teachings’, faces social media retribution

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona went after White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders about “election interference” of a much higher order, arguing over God’s plans for Donald Trump.

CNN’s OutFront became the unlikely platform for a debate on divine will on Wednesday, when guests were asked to discuss Sarah Sander’s stated belief that God himself had chosen Trump to become president.

Cardona was not happy with Sanders’ interpretation of God’s design, responding that if Trump’s victory was preordained, “it is because he wanted to punish us for taking our democracy for granted, and for not ensuring that every person got out there to vote.”

Despite having personally chosen to work on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, Cardona was unable to figure out why God would choose someone “who doesn’t understand the words truth, honesty, integrity, honor, forgiveness.”

“I could go on and on about how this president is actually the antithesis of Jesus Christ’s teachings and anything that real Christians […] would believe in,” she continued.

Commentators were quick to criticize her authority in making such a statement. While Cardona describes herself as a Catholic, her liberal positions on abortion rights, gay marriage and divorce are not exactly in keeping with the religious canon.

While many who engaged in the debate agreed that a “higher power” had influenced the elections, not everyone thought that power was other-wordly.

Cardona quickly hit back against her “hypocritical” haters, even dropping some paraphrased bible quotes to get her point across.

Cardona is not the first to try to defeat Sanders on her own terms. Just last week, Democratic rising star Ocasio-Cortez quoted the bible in the course of an argument with the press secretary about the role of humanity in combating climate change.

YouTube Broke Its Own Search Engine to Rig the Algorithm For the Corporate Media

Direct word for word searches for videos made by independent creators now return a wall of MSM results

Google-owned YouTube has broken its own search engine in order to favor corporate media outlets, with direct word for word searches of video titles now returning a wall of mainstream media results instead of the actual video searched for.

As Mark Dice illustrates in the video below, searching for “Celebrities React to Hillary Losing Election,” the title of a Dice video which has over six million views, instead results in pages of links to different videos from mainstream news outlets, all of which have far less views.

“My video has more views than all of these videos combined but still it is nowhere to be found,” comments Dice.

Dice provides another example, a video titled “Michelle Obama Trashes Hillary Clinton”. Once again, instead of a search query returning the right result, the top result is from Hillary Clinton’s official channel, with other results coming from the likes of CNN, ABC News and Inside Edition.

Dice’s video, which has over two million views, only appears on page 4, below videos such as one from a local TV news station which has just 750 views.

Even after these changes were made, YouTube doubled down by announcing it would stop recommending videos that contained “conspiracy theory” content or were deemed to be ‘misleading’.

This was in reaction to a BuzzFeed article which conflated conspiracy theory content with videos by mainstream conservative commentators like Ben Shapiro, Prager University and philosopher Jordan Peterson.

YouTube was also previously caught gaming their algorithm to heavily favor left-wing narratives on hot button issues such as abortion.

Even some of YouTube’s top creators and people who helped build the platform from the start such as Shane Dawson are being punished.

After YouTube made its decision to bury “conspiracy theory” content, Dawson uploaded a video to his 20 million subscribers called ‘Conspiracy Theories With Shane Dawson’.

The video was de-monetized for hours, with Dawson losing out on tens of thousands of dollars in ad revenue.

The whole farce once again illustrates how YouTube is being gamed to the advantage of big corporations while independent creators are getting screwed over.

NBC News reported:

Federal investigators probing Roger Stone, the former Trump campaign official indicted last week in the Russia probe, have seized multiple hard drives containing years of communication records from cellphones and email accounts, the special counsel’s office said Thursday.

Robert Mueller’s prosecutors, in a new court filing, described the evidence as “voluminous and complex” in asking a judge to delay his trial to give them more time to sift through the seized devices.

The court papers said investigators grabbed hard drives containing several terabytes of information, including “FBI case reports, search warrant applications and results (e.g., Apple iCloud accounts and email accounts), bank and financial records, and the contents of numerous physical devices (e.g., cellular phones, computers, and hard drives).”

Roger Stone told Breitbart News that CNN coordinated with the “Mueller investigation” in producing “great footage” depicting him as “some sort of criminal” in order to “taint the jury pool.” He offered his remarks in a Tuesday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Stone recalled last Friday’s events when he was arrested by FBI agents at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a CNN production team in tow.

LISTEN:

Stone said, “[FBI agents] walked me out in the middle of the street to make sure the CNN camera could get great footage of the whole thing. The street was sealed off, so how CNN had a camera right outside the door; that’s very hard to understand, because nobody else was allowed on the street.”

CNN denied being tipped off by sources within Robert Mueller’s team or the broader FBI, crediting “reporter’s instinct” with its decision to have a camera crew on-site during the pre-dawn raid of Stone’s home.

Stone continued, “They then took me to the federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale where I was shackled, hand and foot, in heavy metal shackles, and put in a holding cell for three hours with three African-American gentlemen who, by the way, all support President Trump’s recent justice reform package, and I waited to go in front of a judge who released me on the bond that we’ve discussed.”

Stone went on, “So this was meant to do two things. One, to taint the jury pool, to paint a picture for the American people that I’m some sort of criminal, even though I’m charged with non-violent process crimes, and also to send a message to others.”

Stone added, “Reading the indictment, there are several people who are preparing to lie on behalf of the Mueller investigation and bear false witness against me. So they want to let them know that this will happen to them unless they say what they’re told to say.”

Last Friday, CNN’s Jake Tapper said of Stone’s possible imprisonment, “He might like it.”

Stone considered Tapper’s comment as innuendo-laden. He said, “Look, I’m a libertarian. I think people know that. I’m a long-time supporter of same-sex marriage, of the legalization of marijuana. I’m a libertarian conservative. I’m not a social conservative. People know that. My private life is my private life. I’m married and I have two children, five grandchildren, and our business is our business.”

Stone went on, “I don’t know what those implications are. I mean, Jake Tapper looks light in the loafers to me. I don’t know what implication he’s making about me, but I think most people found the whole thing repugnant. Yeah, I like to dress well. I have a fashion site; Stone on Style. You can go there, now. I’ve written books. ‘Stone’s Rules for Men’s Style.’ I’ve been the men’s style correspondent for the Daily Caller and I still am. What’s the implication there?”

Stone described harassment and threats directed at him and his family.

“The hatred, the death threats, the threats against my children, the threats to disfigure my wife,” said Stone. “I’ve had people call the house and say, ‘We know where your children go to school,’ and hang up. The left is sick in this country. They are mentally ill.”

Stone stated, “For two years, now, I’ve been unable to go out in public to a restaurant or through an airport without ugliness and people threatening to kill me and people saying, ‘You’re a Russian spy.’”

Stone described the financial burden of combating the Mueller-led operation’s charges against him.

“It’s destroyed my consulting business,” explained Stone. “I lost my health and life insurance in December, because I could no longer pay the premiums. I had to sell my car. I had a small fund set aside for the college education of my children which I had to liquidate, which had come from the proceeds of my books sales.”

Stone continued, “The internet censorship of my show on Infowars and my Facebook page where — I’ve written five books; two of them New York Times best sellers — strictly through Facebook promotion, because I understand targeting. I can no longer do that because I’m censored and shadowbanned on Facebook.”

Stone invited Breitbart News patrons to support his legal defense fund.

“I had to set up a legal defense fund: StoneDefenseFund.com,” said Stone. “Or you can go to WhoFramedRogerStone.com. They both go lead to the same place. That’s the only authorized place if you want to help me and my family.”

Stone pleaded, “I’m broke. I’m looking at $2 million in legal bills to try to not spend the rest of my life in prison on some kind of trumped up phony political charges because I supported Donald Trump for president, and because I helped bring down the most evil, corrupt, foul-mouthed, self-centered, short-tempered kleptocrat in American history: Hillary Rotten Clinton.”

Stone pondered FBI Director Chris Wray’s possible involvement in the FBI raid of his home.

“Obvious question: Did the FBI Director Christopher Wray approve this raid?” asked Stone. “And if so, why? There’s a question for the president. Who approved this? They have to have spent half a million dollars. Who approved this? Christopher Wray may be the president’s worst appointment. He’s a deep stater. He didn’t vote for Donald Trump. He doesn’t support Donald Trump. Why is this guy the FBI director? I don’t really get it.”

Stone went on, “Matthew Whitaker seems to me to be a good man. He’s got authority to act, right now. He has an out of control federal prosecutor who he could limit to Russian collusion based on previous legal decisions, but he doesn’t seem to do so.”

Stone concluded, “This isn’t about me. It’s about the president. They’re coming for him. Anybody who doesn’t see that is naive, and they want me out of the way because I will speak out against it. They want to silence me because I see the big picture.”
