Don Lemon: It's Not Jussie Smollett's "Fault" That He Lost in the Court of Public Opinion

CNN host runs defense for actor arrested for staging his own hate crime

CNN host Don Lemon ran defense for Jussie Smollett on his show last night, claiming that it’s not the actor’s “fault” that he lost in the court of public opinion.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi announced that Smollett was “under arrest and in custody of detectives” this morning. His bail hearing is set for 1:30pm local time.

Smollett launched a media firestorm at the end of last month when he claimed he was assaulted by two individuals who shouted “this is MAGA country” and had a noose placed around his neck.

However, evidence soon emerged clearly suggesting Smollett had paid two Nigerian brothers who worked on the show Empire with him to stage the attack.

Despite some on the left deleting old tweets that signaled vehement support for Smollett and with others keen to avoid talking about the issue altogether, Don Lemon appeared to double down by absolving Smollett of blame.

During a segment on his show last night, the CNN host said Smollett had “lost the fight in the court of public opinion”.

“He lost that because of how – not his fault – maybe people were – I don’t know what they were saying to him, maybe because of his representatives, who knows – but it was handled poorly,” said Lemon.

CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson pushed back, commenting, “I don’t know if it’s not his fault, Don.”

“You think it’s his fault, you think he was doing what he wanted?” asked Lemon.

If the allegations are proven true, quite how anyone but Smollett himself is to blame for staging a hate crime which according to some could have kicked off racial violence in America is somewhat baffling.

Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Smollett’s lawyers say they will “mount an aggressive defense,” with the actor potentially facing jail time.

CNN Blames Trump For Bomb Threat: POTUS ‘Inspired Violence Against CNN’

“The United States is now really becoming a battleground”

CNN’s New York City headquarters was evacuated Thursday night due to a bomb threat that was phoned in, but unsubstantiated. Before CNN reporters could even get back in the building, they were already blaming President Trump for ‘inspiring violence against CNN’.

“We were told to evacuate the building and to do it as soon as possible. We grabbed what we could and got out of the building and now, we are standing outside of the building,” Host Don Lemon told viewers during a live broadcast.

Lemon went on to claim that whole thing was extra “suspicious” because it happened shortly after President Trump tweeted  “FAKE NEWS – THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”

“We don’t know if it has anything to do with it but certainly after. The tweet came out at 10:08 and at 10:15 there was a bomb threat,” Lemon told CNN reporter Brian Stelter.

While Stelter was, rather surprisingly, less eager to embrace Lemon’s theory, the latter continued his journey to conspiracy central.

“And again, we don’t know but the timing is obviously suspicious. These are the times that we are living in and we know what the situation was with the last person who did something similar.” Lemon stated, referring to CNN being mailed an ‘explosive device’ back in October by a purported Trump supporter.

Lemon wouldn’t let up. Later in the broadcast he brought on a former Obama aide to repeat his conspiracy theory.

“Well, the first thing I want to say, Don, is, as I was on my way up here I was struck by the fact the President did tweet minutes before this event happened using language that we know has inflamed violence in the past,” said Samantha Vinograd, a former national security official under Obama.

“From a national security perspective, it is clear that at least in the President’s Twitter feed there is this language that is trigger language for violence that has occurred in the past several weeks. And if you look at the macro picture here, it is very clear that the United States is now really becoming a battleground.” Vinograd added.

Vinograd then claimed that because of Trump, the US is becoming like “countries around the world where people aren’t comfortable traveling, sending their children, and going to study.”

In addition to this insanity, CNN reporters took to Twitter to blame Trump for the unsubstantiated threat:

It emerged Friday morning that the bomb threat was actually made before 10pm, thus before Trump’s tweet.

CNN’s Don Lemon wants to ‘do something’ about white men, ‘the biggest terror threat’

CNN’s Don Lemon wants to ‘do something’ about white men, ‘the biggest terror threat’

Demonstrating a complete failure to grasp the concept of irony, CNN’s Don Lemon urged Americans not to “demonize” each other, and in the same breath called white men “the biggest terror threat in this country.”

Speaking with co-host Chris Cuomo on Monday night, Lemon discussed a fatal shooting of two black people in a grocery store in Kentucky, a raft of pipe bombs mailed to Democratic figures, and Saturday’s shooting dead of 11 worshippers at a Pittsburgh synagogue. The Kentucky and Pittsburgh shooters were white males, while Cesar Sayoc, the mailbomb suspect arrested in Florida last Friday, has identified in the past as Native American.

Lemon’s initial message was one of tolerance and openness. “I keep trying to point out to people and not to demonize any one group or any one ethnicity,” he told viewers.

Then, as if completely forgetting the last sentence, Lemon switched to what sounded a lot like open racism.

“So, we have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right. And we have to start doing something about them,” he said. “There is no travel ban on them. There is no ban on… they had the Muslim ban. There is no white guy ban. So, what do we do about that?”

Predictably, Lemon’s ‘blame whitey’ monologue rankled conservatives on Twitter.

Among the reactions, there were some calls for CNN to fire Lemon. Last week, NBC canceled Megyn Kelly’s Today Show after the host defended blackface as an acceptable Halloween costume, but CNN has given no indication that it will follow suit.

Lemon is no stranger to stirring racial controversy, and seems to be an equal-opportunities hater, as long as conservatives are the target. After Kanye West visited the White House earlier this month, Lemon laughed along with two guests who called the rap star a “token negro” and quipped “Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read.”

The CNN host is apparently content to leave his racially-charged comments at work, however. Lemon has been dating a white man, advertising sales executive Tim Malone, since 2017.
