Biden says Obama White House was ‘scandal-free’… Here’re some of the BIGGER ones he drew a blank on

CAP

The White House had “not one whisper of scandal” under President Barack Obama – that’s what former VP Joe Biden would have one believe as a selling point for his presidential run. Wait, is that the sound of fact-checkers typing?

“The thing I’m proudest of,” Biden said on Friday of his time at Obama’s right hand, “Not one single whisper of scandal…not one, and that’s because of Barack.”

Biden was speaking on ‘The View,’ a day after announcing his campaign for the presidency in 2020. The studio audience cheered and host Joy Behar chimed in, calling Barack Obama “amazing.” Of course, Biden is hardly going to besmirch his former partner on live television, and the view of presidents past tends to soften once they’ve left office.

But one has to wonder if the busy liberal fact-checkers would want to correct the Democrats’ favorite candidate, as his administration racked up its fair share of scandals during Obama’s eight years at the helm. Here’re three of the biggest:

Attack of the drones

CAP

The escalation of drone warfare and the targeted killings of American citizens are some of the biggest and blackest marks on the Obama administration. Although Obama was not the first US president to deploy drones on the battlefield, he was a drone enthusiast from the outset, describing the killer robots as “effective,” “indispensable,” and “the only game in town,”and personally authorizing more strikes in his first year than George W. Bush did in his entire eight years in office.

The whole world became a battlefield. Drone strikes targeted enemies and innocents alike in Pakistan, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Of these strike zones, only Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria were active battlefields. At least four American citizens were killed, including a 16-year-old boy in Yemen, struck two weeks after his father.

CAP

A grand total of 563 strikes killed between 384 and 807 civilians in non-battlefield countries, according to figures from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Technically, it was all legal, of course – after the law in question was written by executive branch lawyers and hidden from Congress and the public.

Fast and Furious

CAP

This Fast and Furious had nothing to do with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Instead, it was a ‘gunwalking’ scandal that Obama and then-Attorney General Eric Holder desperately tried to keep a lid on. In 2009, the Department of Justice came up with the amazingly bright idea of letting firearms – including .50 caliber rifles powerful enough to rip apart an engine block – fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, supposedly as a means of tracking them.

The plan backfired. Federal agents lost track of most of the 2,000 guns, which wound up being used in murders on both sides of the border, including the slaying of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry in 2010.

ALSO ON RT.COM’Fast & Furious’ cartel hitman who killed Border Patrol agent arrested in MexicoBut the Obama administration was non-apologetic. Instead, when the Republican-controlled House kicked up a stink, Holder sought to withhold documents relating to the scandal under subpoena, and Obama later withheld them under executive privilege when Holder was cited for contempt of Congress.

Years later, Mexican authorities are still finding ‘Fast and Furious’ guns at cartel crime scenes. One of the 19 weapons found at the hideout of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman in 2016 was a gun knowingly allowed into Mexico by the Justice Department.

Spy games – allied edition

CAP

As a Senator, Barack Obama condemned the Bush-era Patriot Act for violating the rights of American citizens. Once in office, he renewed the act, allowing intelligence agencies to carry out ‘roving wiretaps’ on American citizens and collect billions of phone call and text message records every year.

Much has been written about Obama’s expansion of the surveillance state, and his administration’s scattergun use of the 1917 Espionage Act to prosecute whistleblowers like NSA contractor Edward Snowden, but perhaps most personally embarrassing was the revelation – via WikiLeaks – that the US government spied on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s phone calls.

CAP

In an angry exchange with Obama, Merkel compared the US National Security Agency (NSA) to the dreaded East German Stasi. Suitably chastised, did Obama move to disarm the US’ surveillance apparatus before leaving office?

Nope. Days after Obama’s January 2017 farewell speech, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch signed an order giving the NSA additional powers to share intercepted communications with the US’s 16 other intelligence agencies. These communications include internet traffic intercepted through the NSA’s dragnet ‘PRISM’ program, and phone, email, and satellite transmissions gathered abroad.

When it comes to totting up the scandals of the Obama years, honorable mention goes to the Benghazi attack that killed ambassador Chris Stevens, Hillary Clinton’s email server scandal, arming jihadist rebels in Syria, and if Republicans are to be believed, authorizing an FBI spying operation on the Trump campaign in 2016.

But Joe Biden would have the voters believe that it is Donald Trump who “will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation.”

Who checks the fact-checkers? Facebook leaves verification to groups funded by Soros, US Congress

CAP

In its crusade against ‘fake news’, Facebook has vowed to fight for impartiality. However, when it comes to fact-checking, it seems to rely on sources, which have links to the US government, and renowned political meddlers.

For more than two years, the social media giant has been seeking to convince the public that it does its best to take a stand against malicious disinformation spread through its network and presented a whole bunch of instruments aimed at revealing and countering false narratives.

It appears, though, that Facebook heavily relies on decisions taken by some third-parties in its ‘anti-disinformation’ policy.

Submissions from the so-called fact-checkers – alongside some feedback from users – seem to be the primary source on which Facebook relies when saying a post is ‘false’.

One-fits-all solution?

Facebook proudly boasted that all the “partners” it cooperates with were “certified” through what it calls “the non-partisan International Fact-Checking Network” or IFCN.

However, the social network’s choice of people to trust with the power to decide what is true or false does raise questions. This seemingly impressive “international network” Facebook mentions is a project run by Florida-based private school of journalism – the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.

The project, which Facebook apparently uses as a sole instrument to find trustworthy “partners,” seems to be way more than just a selfless initiative aimed at helping people navigate through questionable information.

ALSO ON RT.COMAP & Snopes quit ‘fact-checking’ for Facebook as NewsGuard’s blacklist model pushes aheadThe IFCN was launched in 2015 following a generous donation totaling $300,000, which the Poynter Institute received from two sources. One of them is the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) – a “soft-power” organization, which is funded primarily through annual allocations from the US Congress. Another one is the Omidyar Network – a foundation run by the eBay founder and self-described “progressive” billionaire Pierre Omidyar.

Although he has not yet apparently gained as much fame – or infamy for that matter – as another US billionaire and renowned political meddler, George Soros, Omidyar has also lately shown himself as a major patron of regime-change operations. As early as in 2014, the US media reported that Omidyar supported anti-government groups in Ukraine that opposed the then President Viktor Yanukovych, who was ousted during Maidan.

A report by Forbes also suggested that the billionaire was one of the major funders of the Kiev-based Hromadske TV, which harbored anti-Russian views while backing the violent 2014 coup. Most recently, a group of journalists revealed that Omidyar funds a wide range of media outlets through foundations, nonprofits and other cutouts that in fact promote the liberal interventionist agenda.

Notably, two years after the launch of the IFCN Omidyar teamed up with none other than another “liberal interventionist” – Soros – to channel some $1.3 million into the project to support its development.

The Poynter Institute itself also has the Omidyar Network as well as the Democracy Fund – another foundation linked to the eBay founder – on its list of major donors, alongside Open Society Foundations (OSF) run by Soros and the NED.

Providers of ‘ultimate truth’

The list of “certified” fact-checkers provided by the IFCN certainly looks impressive. It includes such international news agencies as Associated Press and Agency France Press (AFP), which appear on the list along with its branch offices in a dozen and a half countries. In total, the ‘network’ describes 66 organizations as “verified signatories” of the self-styled “code of principles” it developed.

However, the impartiality question remains. At least some of the organizations listed as reliable suppliers of the ultimate truth and described as “partners” by Facebook in fact receive substantial funding from the likes of Soros and Omidyar – or even directly from Western governments.

One of these organizations called PolitiFact even enjoys what it calls “administrative support” from the Poynter Institute while receiving significant funding from Facebook itself. The US-based fact-checker also collected regular donations from Omidyar’s Democracy Fund since at least 2013, which amounted to between $125,000 and $250,000.

ALSO ON RT.COMMeet Pierre Omidyar, billionaire patron of US regime change operations, neocons & activist media

Across the pond, the British Full Fact charity lists the Omidyar Network and Open Society Foundations among its top-5 donors. And in the Philippines Omidyar is backing the Rappler, a news site that also made its way to the IFCN fact-checkers’ list while opposing President Rodrigo Duterte.

Together, Omidyar’s Luminate Group and Soros’ OSF also provided a quarter of the funding, which a South Africa-based fact-checker, the ‘Africa Check’, received in 2018. Meanwhile, another such organization based in Turkey and called Teyit got its funds directly from Western governments in the form of “financial support”provided by the British embassy in Ankara as well as the European Endowment for Democracy – a foundation financed directly by most EU states along with Switzerland and Norway.

Some of the organizations on the list also manage to collect donations both from Western governments and the “liberal interventionists.” One such example is the Columbian ‘La Silla Vacia’ group, which received 14.5 percent of its funding from Soros, 9.5 percent from the British embassy and another four percent from the NED.

It seems, after all that, the accusations of “bias” Facebook complained so bitterly about in 2018 might be not as unsubstantiated as the social media giant would like it to appear. Back then, Facebook’s project manager, Tessa Lyons, rhetorically asked if it is possible to have a set of fact-checkers that are widely recognized as objective in today’s world. That’s a really good question, which Facebook might need to ask itself again.

NYC’s Nanny State Strikes Again, This Time They Are Coming For Hamburgers and Hot Dogs

By Jose Nino

According to Breitbart News, New York City’s recently passed “Green New Deal” will reduce the amount of red meat served in city-run facilities by half.

This program is being conducted in the name of battling climate change.

This “Green New Deal” is different from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal at the federal level.

This local Green New Deal will slowly reduce the purchase of red meat in public schools, hospitals, and correctional facilities by 2040. The end goal is to cut meat purchases by 50 percent. The total costs of this program are estimated to be around $14 billion.

Through its passage of this iteration of the Green New Deal, New York is the first city in the world to enact this kind of measure.

The municipal Green New Deal comes right after New York City’s announcement to expand “Meatless Monday” to all public schools in the area starting in the 2019-2020 school year.

Despite being separate legislation from Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, both proposals share an emphasis on reducing meat consumption.

A divided Congress and a Republican controlled White House makes it next to impossible to pass the Green New Deal at the federal level for the time being.

As a result, climate change alarmists are now taking a page from the gun control movement’s playbook.

They recognize that they can’t get their legislation passed at the federal level, so they’ll work from the bottom up in municipalities and state legislatures.

However, the conversation on the Green New Deal is far from finished.

BLP covered Robert Francis ‘Beto’ O’ Rourke’s recent endorsement of the Green New Deal, in which he urged Americans to make sacrifices that were reminiscent to those of WWII.

As the Democratic Party goes further Left, the Green New Deal will likely be a major litmus test issue for future candidates.

‘How is this not meddling?’ Twitter bans Tommy Robinson, Sargon of Akkad campaign accounts

CAP

Campaign accounts of two British candidates for the European Parliament, Tommy Robinson and Carl Benjamin, have been deleted by Twitter, prompting outcries of election meddling with less than a month before the vote.

Robinson and Benjamin – better known under his YouTube handle ‘Sargon of Akkad’ – are running in the May 23 election, which the UK will have to participate in due to the ongoing Brexit delays. Benjamin is a member of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), while Robinson announced his independent candidacy on Thursday.

CAP

CAP

Both of them have had personal accounts purged from Twitter a while ago, but the accounts terminated on Friday were run by their campaign staff, and not them personally.

“We are investigating why, but strongly suspect this is a deliberate act of political censorship to deny a candidate his voice in a crucial election,” Benjamin’s campaign staffer Michael De La Broc said, adding the campaign will complain to the election authorities and maybe even seek restitution in court for “political interference by a foreign entity in our elections.”

UKIP has also declared the ban “election interference” and vowed to “get to the bottom” of the issue.

CAP

Benjamin has come under attack by the media and establishment politicians, who have accused him of “racist” speech. The YouTuber maintains he fights for free speech and against political correctness.

Mainstream media have described Robinson as a “far-right activist” and accused him of “Islamophobia.” He was banned from Facebook and Instagram in February over alleged “hate speech.”

British Muslim organization Tell MAMA has claimed credit for reporting Robinson’s campaign account to Twitter, saying it’s using the candidacy to circumvent his personal ban.

The purge of MEP candidates comes just three days after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey went to the White House and met with US President Donald Trump to address complaints about “shadowbanning” and suspensions disproportionately targeting conservative voices on the social media platform.

While Twitter and other social media platforms have defended censorship on grounds that they are companies and not the government, last year a federal judge in the US ruled that Twitter is a “designated public forum,” and that Trump is not allowed to block people from his personal account on grounds of political speech.

A local 6-year-old in Cancún was killed after being struck by stay cartel gunfire as the child was preparing to enter her house with her parents this week. An unidentified male who was the intended target died at the scene.

Two cartel gunmen riding on a motorcycle in Cancún opened fire on an unidentified male who was walking along the road in colonia Supermanzana 75, fatally striking him multiple times. While carrying out the execution, several stray rounds stuck the child on the left side of her chest and left arm. “Yazley” was moving toward her residence with her parents who were also struck. Her father, Dinver SH, 39, was hit in the left arm while the mother, Loidy Karina, R.B., 29, was shot on the right side of her pelvis. The child’s father picked up Yazley and ran three blocks to Clínica del Seguro Social in Región 89, where the child died. Both parents received treatment for non-life-threatening wounds, according to local media.

The intended target of the cartel gunmen remains unidentified. No further information has been developed and released pertaining to the identity of the shooters.

Breitbart News reports extensively on the cartel violence in once peaceful Cancún. In 2018, the traditional tourist magnet smashed its previous annual record for murders with at least 546—the previous mark was 227 in 2017. The ongoing violence is attributed to the turf wars between the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion, Los Zetas, Gulf, and smaller groups loyal to the Sinaloa Cartel.

In January, Breitbart News reported on seven people killed when cartel gunmen stormed a residence and opened fire. In another attack, three men were killed and two others wounded along one of the main avenues in the city. Also, cartel gunmen stormed a bar and killed five in February.

Jack Dorsey Shuts Down Rep. Omar; Won’t Remove Trump 9/11 Tweet

Profile picture for user Tyler Durden

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) didn’t get her way after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey called her to let her know that the company would not remove a tweet from President Trump featuring a video of her casually dismissing the 9/11 terrorist attack as “some people did something.”

Dorsey called Omar on Tuesday to discuss the tweet after Omar claimed she received a flood of death threats in response.

CAP

When the Somali-born Muslim Rep. pressed Dorsey on why the tweet wasn’t removed, Dorsey said that Trump’s tweet didn’t violate the company rules, according to the Washington Post.

Dorsey also pointed to the fact that the tweet and video already had been viewed and shared far beyond the site, one of the sources said. But the Twitter executive did tell Omar that the tech giant needed to do a better job generally in removing hate and harassment from the site, according to the two people familiar with the call. –Washington Post

Two days after Trump’s tweet, Omar said she had experienced an “increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the president’s video.”

Twitter confirmed that the Tuesday call too place, telling the Post “During their conversation, [Dorsey] emphasized that death threats, incitement to violence, and hateful conduct are not allowed on Twitter,” adding “We’ve significantly invested in technology to proactively surface this type of content and will continue to focus on reducing the burden on the individual being targeted. Our team has also consistently been in touch with Rep. Omar’s office.”

Dorsey reached out to Omar the same day that he met with Trump in the Oval Office, after he accepted the president’s invitation. Trump is said to have spent much of the meeting discussing his concerns that Twitter is deliberately targeting and removing his followers, according to the Post.

Florida Senate Votes to Ban Sanctuary Cities, DeSantis Expected to Sign Into Law

A huge win for border security in Florida.

Published  on Apr 26, 2019 By

On the heels of the Florida House of Representatives voting in favor of legislature that would ban sanctuary cities, the Florida Senate followed suit on Friday.

“Florida bill to ban sanctuary cities passes 22-18! Another victory for [Gov. Ron DeSantis] and the bills’ sponsor [State Sen. Joe Gruters],” said OAN’s Ryan James Girdusky.

The bill will have to go back to the House to rectify any discrepancies in the two versions before it is sent to DeSantis’ desk, but is expected to clear that hurdle and be signed into law.

“This bill isn’t about immigration policy, this about working with the federal government to enforce the existing law,” Gruters reportedly said. “Remember, only 15 percent of illegal immigrants who have been arrested get detainer requests and it doesn’t guarantee you’re going to be deported.”

Big League Politics reported on the landmark legislation Wednesday:

The Florida House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday to outlaw sanctuary cities that harbor criminal illegal aliens.

Led by Republicans, the bill would require “local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and banning so-called ‘sanctuary city’ policies that shield immigrants who are arrested,” said NBC.

“The GOP-led House voted 69-47 along party lines Wednesday for the measure, sending it over to the Senate where a similar bill is pending,” according to the report.

The Florida Senate is stacked with Republicans, who outnumber Democrats 23-17. Should the bill pass the Senate, it will likely be signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is known for his tough stance on border security.
