Silent on giving $10 billion in aid to Mexico, Central America

The American Mirror – DECEMBER 22, 2018

Despite pushing for a socialist “Medicare for all” plan that countless experts argue would bankrupt the nation, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now all of a sudden concerned about paying for things.

On Thursday, the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives approved $5.7 billion in fundingfor the wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The measure has not yet been voted on in the Senate amid ongoing negotiations, and the partial government shut down on Saturday morning.

But in response to the $5.7 billion for the wall in the House bill, the New York socialist took to Twitter to claim “no one’s asking the GOP how they’re paying for it.”

“And just like that, GOP discovers $5.7 billion for a wall. $5.7 billion… What if we instead added $5.7B in teacher pay? Or replacing water pipes? Or college tuition/prescription refill subsidies? Or green jobs? But notice how no one’s asking the GOP how they’re paying for it,” she wrote.

For starters, “no one” is asking how the GOP is “paying for it” because most people understand basic math and how the federal government works.

The federal government is funded by the taxpayers. When Congress passes a spending bill, it must allocate the necessary funding for the the following fiscal year to ensure all government can fully operate.

They didn’t “discover” the money out of thin air, it has been there the entire time. The issue is that in Congress, a spending bill requires a supermajority, meaning 60 votes in the Senate.

No Democrats are agreeing to vote in favor of the House-passed package, so negotiations are ongoing about how much funding — which the government already has — will be allocated for “border security.”

Aside from Ocasio-Cortez not even having a rudimentary understanding of how government works, which she will be part of in a week, many are wondering why she’s not all of a sudden concerned about spending money.

CHUCK SCHUMER SAYS REPUBLICANS MUST ‘ABANDON’ WALL IN ORDER TO REOPEN GOVERNMENT

Henry Rodgers | Capitol Hill Reporter

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans need to “abandon” border wall funding if they want the government to reopen, just less than 24 hours into the partial shutdown.

Schumer, who has strongly opposed funding President Donald Trump’s border wall, saidthis on the Senate floor Saturday afternoon as the federal government is officially in a partial shutdown after Senate Republicans failed to receive enough votes to pass a short-term spending bill Friday that included funding for a border wall.

WATCH:

The New York senator also said Democrats are “open to discussing any proposal as long as they do not include anything for the wall,” showing Democrats are not willing to compromise on border wall funding.

Before the partial shutdown, Schumer said there was no way the wall was being funded on numerous occasions.

“I want to be crystal clear — there will be no additional appropriations to pay for the border wall,” Schumer said on the Senate floor on Dec. 13. “It’s done.” (RELATED: Chuck Schumer Makes It ‘Crystal Clear’ He Wants No Additional Funding For Border Wall)

The two parties will now have to figure out an agreement, and the senators must be present for a vote on the Senate floor to send a bill to the president to sign and end the partial government shutdown.

SCHUMER SHUTDOWN: Cryin’ Chuck Says Dems Will Block Government Funding

By

Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor to take full credit for the impending government shutdown.

The Democrat leader said his caucus refuses to fund the government all because President Trump wants $5 billion dollars to begin construction on the border wall with Mexico.

In 2013, Democrats blamed Ted Cruz for shutting down the government because of his attempt to block Obamacare funding. But now in 2018, when Senate Democrats are using the exact same strategy, it’s somehow Republicans’ fault.

The facts are clear, the GOP Congress sent a bill to the Senate that would fund the government. Democrats are refusing to pass the bill.

There’s no doubt, it’s a Schumer Shutdown.

And don’t forget, Mitch McConnell passed a funding bill with wide Democrat support earlier in the week.

Wonder what Mitch is saying to Chuck here…

German minister who said “Happy Ramadan”, omits Merry Christmas on official Christmas card

’Frohe Weihnachten’, which is German for ‘Merry Christmas’, is the traditional greeting heard all throughout Germany.

Strangely, that was omitted from an official Christmas card from Annette Widmann-Mauz, Germany’s Minister for Migration, Refugees and Integration.

There was a photograph of the minister with several employees and included a Christmas tree in the background. However, otherwise it was a relatively un-festive card.

The card’s message, “No matter what you believe in, we wish you a contemplating time and a good start of the New Year,” was cause for criticism.

In Germany, Christmas is traditionally the largest holiday, so it seems amiss that Widmann-Mauz would omit Christmas from the official card.

Especially when she has congratulated other faiths on their holidays and didn’t miss wishing a happy Ramadan to those of the Muslim faith.

After much internet disapproval, including some saying there is nothing ‘Christian’ in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and that she is not right for her job, Annette’s office wrote on Twitter:

“Merry Christmas to all of you in Germany!”

Earlier Thursday, Rep. Mark Meadows, VP Mike Pence, Rep. Mo Brooks, Rep. Paul Ryan were all seen entering the White House for a meeting.

Paul Ryan emerged from the meeting and said President Trump will not sign the interim spending bill that came from the Senate last night.

President Trump now put a tremendous amount of pressure on the House to provide border wall funding in the bill or it’s lights out in less than 48 hours.

If the House approves of the bill with the new changes to include border wall funding, it goes back to the Senate to get approved.

The State Department has already been directed to prepare for a shutdown, reports FOX News.

A woman was killed and nine other people were seriously injured as a car rammed into a group of commuters waiting for a bus in the western German town of Recklinghausen. Police say the driver might have attempted suicide.

A passenger car suddenly strayed into the oncoming lane and plowed through the people at a crowded bus stop midday on Thursday, the witnesses said, describing the scene as “chaotic.”

Ten people were taken to hospital in serious condition, with one woman later succumbing to her injuries.

The police believe that the collision was intentional, with spokeswoman, Ramona Hörst, saying that were “first indications of a possible suicide attempt by the man.”

The driver survived the crash and was released from his wrecked car by the firefighters. According to other reports, the man wasn’t trapped in the vehicle.

The incident comes in wake of a string of ramming attacks in Europe, with radicalized assailants using vehicles to target civilians in France, Spain, Sweden, and other countries.

Germany saw its deadliest vehicle attack in December 2016. Twelve people lost their lives and 56 others were wounded when a Tunisian national plowed his truck through a Christmas market in central Berlin.

Freedom Caucus Seizes House Floor To Fight For The Wall

By

The Freedom Caucus took the House floor Wednesday night to demand $5 billion in congressional funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall.

“The time to fight is now” declared Jim Jordan of Ohio, who joined with North Carolina’s Mark Meadows in the late-night effort.

The Freedom Caucus sent a clear signal to the commander in chief President Donald Trump: if you veto the “stopgap” bill that kicks the can down the road a few pointless months, then we will have a Christmas season government shutdown. And isn’t time we start saying Merry Christmas again in this Country?

“Mr. President, we’re going to back you up if you veto this — back you up. If you veto this bill, we’ll be there, more importantly, the American people will be there. They’ll be there to support you. Let’s build the wall and make sure we do our job in Congress,” said Freedom Caucus heavyweight Meadows.

Latest: President Trump: ‘Walls Work…They Work Better Than Anything’

“The president, many, many months ago said he would not sign another funding bill unless we gave him wall funding. What did this House do? It passed the bill to fund the Department of Defense and passed a short-term C.R. And said we are going to have that fight after the mid-terms,” said Meadows, who called out loser outgoing speaker Paul Ryan directly.

Here’s what Jim Jordan had to say:  “Everyone knows the old line. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. But we’re going to have to change that line — we’re to need a new one. The new line should be Fool the American people four times, shame on Congress.”

(FAKE NEWS) – CNN’s 2014 ‘Journalist of the Year’ Made Up at Least 14 Stories

By

In a truly fitting turn of events, news broke Thursday that Claas Relotius, a German journalist named CNN’s 2014 “Journalist of the Year” made up at least 14 stories contributed to German publication Der Spiegal

“The reporter contributed around 60 articles to Der Spiegel, one of the leading German magazines for investigative reporting,” according to Fox News. “He previously worked for other publications in Europe and won awards such as CNN Journalist of the Year in 2014.”

CNN, which has been branded a fake news by President Donald J. Trump and millions of ordinary Americans – and curiously wonders why on a daily basis – awarded a bona fide fake news writer an award for the quality of his journalism. Sometimes the jokes write themselves.

“The fabricated articles include a phone interview with the parents of free agent NFL player Colin Kaepernick and a story about an American woman who claims to have volunteered to witness the executions of death row inmates,” according to the report.

Relotius’ web of lies began to unravel in November when a reporter with whom he worked on a story about an Arizona border militia realized that Relotius had fabricated interviews.

According to the report, residents of Fergus Falls, Minn. were enraged to find that Relotius wrote an entirely fabricated story about their town after spending nearly three weeks investigating there. The story, which fabricated people, quotes, and nearly everything about the town cast President Donald J. Trump in a negative light. It was titled “Where They Pray for Trump on Sundays.”

The report said that Relotius admitted that he is unwell.

“I am sick and I need to get help,” he reportedly told Der Spiegel.

‘Peaceful’ Syrian refugee tests bomb in his back garden in Belgium

By

A 20-year-old Syrian refugee has been charged for terrorist activities and by the correctional court in Charleroi, Belgium.

Newspaper HLN reports that the man, named Ahmed A., tested a bomb in his back garden in Mouscron.

The Syrian national was already monitored after an FBI warning, Belgian officials said. The charges against the man are: Preparing a terrorist attack and participating in terrorist activities.

After his arrest the man told via a translator that the explosives were to be used for fishing, but these remarks were rejected by the magistrate.

She said the man was tracked down after his online search for terrorist activities and his research into making explosives.

The Syrian refugee’s lawyer called the man ‘a peaceful refugee’ instead of a terrorist and said the test in his back garden wasn’t serious.

But according to the magistrate the man liked the activities of ISIS on Facebook and Telegram. The prosecutor demanded five years in jail. The verdict is on 16 January next year.

More countries will not sign UN Migration Pact – Hungarian FM

IRENA IRIS SZEWCZYK

By LAURA CAT 19 December 2018

At a hearing of the Foreign Affairs Committee on Monday, foreign minister Péter Szijjártó tells Parliament that there are at least 13 countries set to vote against the UN Migration compact on 19 December.

The countries who will vote against the plan include the Visegrád Four group of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, as well, Bulgaria, Latvia, Austria, the United States, Israel, Australia, Dominica and Brazil, Péter told at the hearing.

Minister Szijjártó also has asserted that Hungary will also reject the “sister document”, which has been hailed as even worse than the Migration pact, The Global Compact on Refugees.

This is is said to allow migrants to enter Europe “through a backdoor” and as the minister said, “Hungarian communities across the border will not be sacrificed for geopolitical interests or under international pressure”.

Referring to the “unbelievable pressure” western allies have deployed on Hungary in the effort to have Hungary relinquish its position vetoing Ukraine’s NATO integration, the foreign minister insists that Hungary would stand firm until “Ukraine drops its anti-Hungarian policies”.
