WHO officials make urgent plea for medical gear: ‘Supplies are rapidly depleting’

  • The WHO estimates that each month 89 million medical masks, 76 million examination gloves and 1.6 million goggles will be required for the COVID-19 response.

  • It said manufacturers need to increase personal protective gear supplies by 40% to meet the needs of the medical community.

World Health Organization officials called on medical supply manufacturers to “urgently increase production” to meet the global demand that is needed to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak rapidly spreading across the world.

“Supplies are rapidly depleting. WHO estimates that each month 89 million medical masks will be required for the COVID-19 response, 76 million examination gloves and 1.6 million goggles,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters at the organization’s Geneva headquarters.

Tedros said manufacturers need to increase personal protective gear supplies by 40% to meet the needs of the medical community.

On Capitol Hill in Washington, Health and Human Services’ assistant secretary for preparedness and response, Dr. Robert Kadlec, said the U.S. has about 35 million N95 respirator masks. That’s about 10% of the 3.5 billion he estimates the U.S. will need if COVID-19 erupts into a full-blown pandemic.

World health officials have said that N95 face masks are effective in protecting health-care workers from the infection, prompting global demand for them to surge. In China, demand for face masks has depleted the country’s stockpile where doctors and nurses face shortages, according to the South China Morning Post.

WHO officials announced on Monday that the number of new coronavrius cases outside China was almost nine times higher than that inside the country in the previous 24 hours. They also increased the risk assessment of the coronavirus Friday to “very high” at the global level. In January, it declared the virus a global health emergency, while urging the public against overreacting to the virus.

“As one epidemic looks like ending, one front of the fight closing, another is becoming increasingly complex” Tedros said Tuesday. China reported 120 new cases in the last 24 hours, compared with 1,848 new infections in 48 countries, with most of those cases coming from Italy, Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said. Emerging from Wuhan, China, more than two months ago, COVID-19 has already spread to more than 91,300 people across at least 73 countries, killing at least 3,110 — including at least six in the U.S.

“Iranian medical doctors and nurses have concerns that they don’t necessarily have enough equipment, supplies, ventilators, respirators, oxygen and all the things you’ve heard spoken about in many of the press conferences,” said Dr. Michael Ryan, who runs WHO’s emergency program. “Those needs are more acute for the Iranian health system than they are most any other health system.”

The organization has yet to classify the virus as a pandemic and has maintained that its attention is on containing the spread, although the virus has substantially moved beyond China and has now been found in nearly 60 countries.

Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told Senate lawmakers Tuesday that the current outbreak already meets two of the three main criteria under the technical designation of a pandemic.

“It is a new virus, and it is capable of person-to-person spread,” she said in prepared testimony at a hearing. “If sustained person-to-person spread in the community takes hold outside China, this will increase the likelihood that the WHO will deem it a global pandemic.”

Epidemics have emerged in Iran, Italy, and South Korea, where the number of cases is rapidly increasing. The U.S. recorded its first six deaths from the virus since this weekend, while New York state confirmed a second case earlier Tuesday. Every country should prepare for its first case and no one should assume it won’t get any cases, Tedros said last month.

“This is a unique virus, with unique features. This virus is not influenza,” Tedros said. “We are in uncharted territory.”

Tedros shed more light on the virus Tuesday, saying it spreads similar to influenza, by small droplets of fluid from the nose and mouth of someone who’s sick.

“However, there are some important differences,” he said. “First COVID-19 does not transmit as efficiently as influenza from the data we’ve seen so far. With influenza, people who are infected but not yet sick are major drivers of transmission, which doesn’t appear to be the case with COVID-19.”

Tedros said last week that health officials would not “hesitate” to declare the outbreak a pandemic if “that’s what the evidence suggests.” On Friday at a press briefing, he said that most cases of COVID-19 can still be traced to known contacts or clusters of cases and there isn’t any “evidence as yet that the virus is spreading freely in communities.” That’s one reason why WHO hasn’t declared the outbreak a pandemic, Tedros said Friday.

Ryan said Monday scientists still don’t know exactly how COVID-19 “behaves,” saying it’s not like influenza. “We know it’s not transmitting in exactly the same way that influenza was, and that offers us a glimmer, a chink of light, that this virus can be suppressed and pushed and contained,” he said.

Ryan also said health officials think countries are being transparent, but “it’s very easy to be caught unaware in an epidemic situation.”

WHO officials on Friday increased the risk assessment of the coronavirus to “high” to “very high” at a global level. The world can still avoid “the worst of it,” but the increased risk assessment means the WHO’s “level of concern is at its highest,” Ryan said at the time.

Health officials have said the respiratory disease is capable of spreading through human-to-human contact, droplets carried through sneezing and coughing and germs left on inanimate objects. The virus appears to be particularly troublesome for older people and those with underlying health conditions. Symptoms can include a sore throat, runny nose, fever or pneumonia and can progress all the way to multiple organ failure or death in some severe cases.

Coronavirus now spreading faster outside of China – amid pandemic fears

2/26/2020

The Pope is helping to spread the virus among weak and vulnerable. … you can’t make this stuff up!

Don’t worry we can contain this virus….. Said every country that’s tried and failed. Also its wreckless the government saying not to worry about the people returning from known infected areas with flu symptoms. I bet they wouldn’t send their own children in that situation! I swear between the horribly currupt who and the advice from some countries leaders its like they want it spread.

China is welding people in their homes. UK gov says “wash your hands”. I’m very comforted.

Pope Francis endorses wealth redistribution, calls for an end to tax cuts for the ‘richest people’

CAP

Pope Francis blasted the practice of tax cuts for the rich as part of a “structure of sin” and lamented the fact that “billions of dollars” end up in “tax haven accounts” instead of funding “healthcare and education.”

Speaking at the seminar set up by the Pontifical Academy for Social Sciences  the Pope criticized “the richest people” for receiving “repeated tax cuts” in the name of “investment and development.” These “tax haven accounts” impede “the possibility of the dignified and sustained development of all social agents,” claims the Pope.

He added that “the poor increase around us” as poverty is rising around the world. This poverty can be ended if the wealthiest gave more.

“The 50 richest people in the world have an equity equivalent to 2.2 billion dollars. Those fifty people alone could finance the medical care and education of every poor child in the world, whether through taxes, philanthropic initiatives or both. Those fifty people could save millions of lives every year,” the Pope said.

Though Pope Francis believes poverty is a major current issue, something he has spoken about before, he tried to remain hopeful by saying the world’s problems today are “solvable.”

“The main message of hope I want to share with you is precisely this: these are solvable problems, not ones from a lack of resources. There is no determinism that condemns us to universal inequity. Let me repeat: we are not condemned to universal inequity,” he said.

Though the Pope spoke of the dangers of “extreme poverty” in his economic speech, reports suggest that extreme poverty is falling every year around the globe.

Still, a higher tax rate for wealthier individuals is a popular idea with some parties in both the US and UK, and the gap between rich and poor is certainly widening. A recent Oxfam report indicated the richest one percent of the world’s population has twice as much wealth as the remaining 90 percent, or 6.9 billion people.

Pope Francis Urges Carbon Penalties to Avert Climate ‘Catastrophe’

ROME — Pope Francis warned of disastrous consequences if humanity does not immediately react to the threat of climate change, since the world has reached a “critical moment” and there is no time to waste.

“Dear friends, time is running out!” the pope told a group of participants in a Vatican-sponsored conference on energy transition Friday. “We cannot afford the luxury of waiting for others to come forward or of prioritizing short-term economic benefits. The climate crisis requires decisive action from us, here and now.”

Despite the pontiff’s frequent denunciation of a “politics of fear,” he seemed determined to paint as frightening a picture as possible of an impending climate apocalypse in order to incite people to action.

This conference “takes place at a critical moment,” Francis said. “Today’s ecological crisis, especially climate change, threatens the very future of the human family, and this is not an exaggeration. For too long we have collectively ignored the fruits of scientific analysis, and catastrophic predictions can no longer be viewed with contempt and irony.”

The pope’s words Friday went beyond sounding a general alarm and scorning climate-change skeptics. They also urged specific political action, most notably regarding penalties for carbon usage such as a carbon tax.

“A carbon pricing policy is essential if humanity wants to use the resources of creation wisely,” he said. “The failure to manage carbon emissions has produced a huge debt that will now have to be repaid with interest from those who come after us.”

The cost of carbon usage must be paid here and now by those who use it, and not deferred for future generations to cover, he proposed.

“Our use of common environmental resources can be considered ethical only when the social and economic costs of their use are recognized in a transparent manner and are fully sustained by those who use them, rather than by other populations or future generations,” he said.

The pope reiterated the popular belief that “the effects on the climate will be catastrophic if we exceed the 1.5ºC threshold outlined in the Paris Agreement goals,” for which we have “only a little over a decade.”

“In the face of a climatic emergency, we must take appropriate measures, in order to avoid committing a grave injustice towards the poor and future generations. We must act responsibly well considering the impact of our actions in the short and long term,” he said.

“Future generations are soon to inherit a very ruined world,” the pontiff stressed. “Our children and grandchildren should not have to pay the cost of the irresponsibility of our generation.”

Appearing to take a page from AOC’s Green New Deal, Francis expressed his conviction that an energy transition from fossil fuels to a low-carbon society “can generate new employment opportunities, reduce inequality, and increase the quality of life for those affected by climate change.”

Today “a radical energy transition is needed to save our common home,” he warned. “There is still hope and the time remains to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, provided that there is prompt and resolute action.”

POPE FRANCIS SENDS HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TO ASSIST MIGRANTS IN MEXICO TRYING TO REACH U.S.

Globalist pontiff accelerates crusade against populism

 | Infowars.com – APRIL 27, 2019

Pope Francis is sending $500,000 dollars to help migrants in Mexico who are trying to reach the United States.

“Pope Francis has donated 500,000 dollars to assist migrants in Mexico. The funds, from the Peter’s Pence collections, will be distributed among 27 projects promoted by sixteen Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, which requested assistance in continuing to provide food, lodging, and basic necessities to the migrants,” reports Vatican News.

The article notes that the migrants are primarily from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala but that they don’t plan to stay in Mexico, and are “instead hoping for a better future in the United States…however, the US border remains closed to them”.

The money will go to aid the more than 75,000 people who arrived in Mexico in 2018 as part of six migrant caravans.

As part of his crusade against populism, Pope Francis has repeatedly urged European countries to take in migrants from predominantly Muslim countries.

Catholics have also expressed alarm about his liberal views on abortion, gay marriage and the existence of hell, while also expressing amazement at his comparison of ISIS to Jesus Christ.

The notion that the Pope is a genuine humanitarian who cares about the plight of the powerless is also laughable given his role in covering up the Catholic Church’s global sexual abuse scandal.

Meanwhile, some voices within the Catholic church are actually telling the truth about how mass migration is destroying Christianity.

French Journalist: Two Churches in France Are Vandalized EVERY DAY and No One Gives a F*ck

“This government, this regime….including the Pope, including the cardinals, shut their mouth, say nothing”

 | Infowars.com – APRIL 17, 2019

French journalist Maxime Lepante warns that France’s history is “in the process of burning down” as a result of two churches being vandalized every day and that political and religious leaders don’t “give a f*ck.”

Lepante highlighted recently released statistics that show there were 1062 anti-Christian acts in 2018, compared to just 100 anti-Muslim acts. Throughout 2018, no less than 875 churches in France were targeted.

“Two churches were vandalized per day,” said Lepante, adding, “This government, this regime….including the Pope, including the cardinals, shut their mouth, say nothing when our churches are being vandalized, and in contrast, the minute there is a mosque that has a pot of pork sausage in front of it, there’s immediately arrest and prison for the person who did it….apologies from the whole of France, the stigmatization of racism and so on, it’s an absolutely unbearable double standard!”

Lepante then pointed out that the Notre Dame cathedral was vandalized a few years ago by feminist protesters who sprayed urine everywhere and that the left’s response was to laugh while the perpetrators were acquitted.

The journalist then cited the story of how a Pakistani migrant who had only been in the country two months caused “extensive damage” to the Basilica of Saint-Denis in Paris.

“I would like to remind you that in the week March 12th-19th, twelve French churches were vandalized,” said Lepante, before citing several examples of how leading leftist figures in France have openly called for the destruction of Paris’ historical buildings and monuments and how political leaders don’t “give a f*ck” about the situation.

“The situation is grave, the situation is scandalous, it’s the pride of our history that is in the process of burning down,” said Lepante.

GUILTY: Top Advisor to Pope Convicted of Child Sex Abuse

Cardinal George Pell is the highest level Catholic official ever to be convicted of sex abuse.

The highest-level Catholic official ever to be charged with child sex crimes was convicted on Monday in Melbourne, Australia.

“Cardinal George Pell is Pope Francis’ top financial adviser and the Vatican’s economy minister. He bowed his head as a jury delivered unanimous verdicts in the Victoria state County Court on Dec. 11 after more than two days of deliberation,” according to AP.

Pell molested two choirboys.

The convicted Cardinal is 77-years-old and faces up to 50 years in prison, the report said. He is expected to appeal the ruling.

“The jury convicted Pell of abusing two 13-year-old boys whom he had caught swigging sacramental wine in a rear room of Melbourne’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1996 when he was archbishop,” according to the report.

The Catholic Church has long been embroiled in child sex abuse scandals, which have intensified over the past year. Fourteen states attorneys general have demanded internal documents pertaining to child sex abuse from all of the Catholic dioceses within their states. In December, the attorney general of Illinois found that 500 priests had been accused of sex abuse, but never reported.

In a summit held by Pope Francis over the weekend, he vowed to confront abuserswith “the wrath of God,” and called sex abuse a “brazen, aggressive and destructive evil.”

“If in the Church there should emerge even a single case of abuse – which already in itself represents an atrocity – that case will be faced with the utmost seriousness,” he said. “Indeed, in people’s justified anger, the church sees the reflection of the wrath of God, betrayed and insulted by these deceitful consecrated persons.”

US Conference of Catholic Bishops delays vote pending Vatican approval

 | Infowars.com – NOVEMBER 12, 2018

The Vatican stepped in to prevent a vote at a US bishops’ conference Monday which could have led to the formation of a commission to hold bishops accountable for child sex abuse crimes.

A second action item up for vote at the 2018 US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), held in Baltimore, may have spurred the creation of a code of ethical conduct for bishops.

“At the insistence of the Holy See, we will not be voting on the two action items in our docket regarding the abuse crisis,” USCCB President Cdl. Daniel DiNardo said in a surprise announcement.

“We have accepted with disappointment this particular event that took place this morning,” DiNardo said, calling the order “a bump in the road.”

“We have not lessened in any of our resolve for actions,” DiNardo added.

The Vatican’s decision was met with apprehension by reporters, who asked how followers could continue to trust the institution.

“They watch us in action in bearing fruit…You also do look to what’s happened to this issue over the past 17 or 18 years,” DiNardo answered. “Remember, the Dallas Charter is not completed yet because the bishops weren’t always involved in the Dallas Charter,” which sought to tamp down rampant clerical sex abuse.

As highlighted by ChurchMilitant.com, the bishops were instrumental in the Dallas’ Charter’s creation, along with the help of disgraced former Cardinal Archbishop Theodore McCarrick:

Capture

“What they’ve said today is, we can’t do anything unless we get permission from this foreign government. To do what? To turn in sex offenders to the police?” Isely told the press Monday. “What do you need to fly over to Rome, to another country, to get permission to assure the American public that this organization is safe?”

While the vote was delayed, another bishop at the conference, Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago – “one of the Pope’s closest allies in the United States,” according to CNN – encouraged the USCCB to hold a discussion on the topic and take an informal vote, followed by another vote in March following the Vatican’s own meeting on the subject.

Pope Francis in late September called the deluge of clerical sex crimes, as well as divisions within the church, the work of Satan and asked Catholics to pray every day throughout the month of October.

“(The Church must be) saved from the attacks of the malign one, the great accuser and at the same time be made ever more aware of its guilt, its mistakes, and abuses committed in the present and the past,” Francis said.
