HUH: California Law Would Pay Meth Addicts For Staying Sober

It’s sad that it’s come to this.

By

A new law proposed by a California State Senator would provide gift cards to citizens of the state for staying sober.

Senate Bill 888, proposed by San Francisco’s Scott Weiner, would make recovering former meth users eligible to receive gift cards and other financial rewards for staying sober. Weiner has a controversial record as a state legislator, at one point proposing a law that made declining to reveal one’s HIV status to a sexual partner no longer a felony.

Methamphetamine has a particularly strong presence in California, and the state is one of the few in the country where more die from use of the cheap drug than they do of opioid overdoses.

California has a massive drug problem, a blight worsened by the state’s homeless population- by far the largest in the country.

Addicts would submit to regular drug tests to receive state benefits under the bill. They’d be made eligible for subsidized treatment with California’s Medi-Cal, the state medicare program.

Participants in the program can receive up to $330 in gift cards.

Weiner’s legislation may actually have some merits. Creating a cash incentive for drug users to stay clean may ultimately prove more effective than costly and ineffective state-controlled drug recovery programs. In any case, it’s likely paying addicts is a more efficient use of resources then locking them up in the stacked California prison system after committing crimes to fuel their addiction.

But it’s a tragedy that the state has come to this. California used to represent the dreams and aspirations of the American middle class, not ground zero for homelessness and drug addiction.

COVID – 19 Friday update 28 Feb

By Dr. John Campbell 2/28/2020

I love how Doc just stares at the camera in silence when he wants show disapproval

I’m so glad you mentioned the comparison with influenza, I’ve been trying to highlight the transmissibility of COVID-19 for weeks compared to flu. Add to that the incubation period, asymptomatic potential and aerosolised transmission!! It’s an incredibly risky virus especially to older and vulnerable populations and the government should have been pouring support into nursing homes and social care support long before now.

Ocasio-Cortez: Pence ‘Not Qualified’ to Lead Coronavirus Effort — He ‘Literally Does Not Believe in Science’

By

JOSHUA CAPLAN

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Wednesday decried President Donald Trump’s appointment of Vice President Mike Pence to lead the administration’s effort to combat the potential spread of deadly Chinese coronavirus in the United States, claiming he is unqualified for the role.

“Mike Pence literally does not believe in science. It is utterly irresponsible to put him in charge of US coronavirus response as the world sits on the cusp of a pandemic,” the New York Democrat wrote on social media. This decision could cost people their lives. Pence’s past decisions already have.”

Ocasio-Cortez then shared an article in which Pence is accused of enabling an HIV outbreak in Indiana under his governorship, writing:  “As governor, Pence’s science denial contributed to one of the worst HIV outbreaks in Indiana’s history.”

“As governor, Pence’s science denial contributed to one of the worst HIV outbreaks in Indiana’s history,” she added. “He is not a medical doctor. He is not a health expert. He is not qualified nor positioned in any way to protect our public health.”

President Trump announced hours before Ocasio-Cortez’s comments that Pence will lead the U.S.’s response to the virus. During the press briefing, the president said the illness’s spread is not inevitable and that citizens that have been diagnosed with it are doing “very well.”

“Of the 15 people… eight of them have returned to their homes, to stay at their homes until they’re fully recovered. One is in the hospital, five have fully recovered and one we think is in pretty good shape,” he said. “In almost all cases, they’re getting better.”

President Trump also confirmed the U.S. has ordered additional masks to fight the spread of the disease and warned businesses against price gauging on protective products. He then expressed optimism about a bipartisan congressional effort to secure funding to fight the illness after requesting $2.5 billion on Monday.

“We started out by looking at certain things, we’ve been working with the Hill very, very carefully, very strongly and I think that we have very good bipartisan spirt for money,” he stated. “We were asking for $2.5 billion and we think that is a lot. But the Democrats — and I guess Senator Schumer — want us to have more than that.”

To date, the U.S. has nearly 60 confirmed cases, which includes the 42 Americans repatriated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan earlier this month.

As Marxist Bernie Sanders continues to surge in the Democrat primary a new poll finds that only 29% of US voters support Socialism.

This could spell doom for Democrats in November.

It was already going to be a very difficult year for the death cult but with Crazy Bernie as the public face of the party it’s going to be even more difficult.

Via Rasmussen Reports:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 29% of Likely U.S. Voters share a favorable opinion of socialism, with just nine percent (9%) who have a Very Favorable one. Fifty-nine percent (59%) view socialism unfavorably, including Very Unfavorables of 42%. Eleven percent (11%) are undecided.

BREAKING: Trump Campaign Files Libel Lawsuit Against New York Times for Russia Conspiracies

Fake news has consequences.

The Donald J. Trump For President campaign filed a new defamation lawsuit against the New York Times in the New York Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking to the hold the legacy media publication accountable for its false claims of a conspiracy between Trump and the government of Russia to assist in Trump’s 2016 election as President.

The development could represent the first step towards holding fake news accountable for wide-ranging conspiracies alleging Russian interference in American politics on behalf of Trump, a recurring theme in the New York Times’ editorial and news coverage since the President’s election.

The Trump campaign is pointing to an op-ed in 2019 as an incident in which the Times “knowingly published false and defamatory statements,” most notably claiming that President Trump was willfully working with the Russia to ensure his election. The Times claimed Russia was boosting Trump’s political prospects with the hopes of a pro-Russian foreign policy to come during the Trump administration.

Jenna Ellis, senior legal counsel to the campaign, released a statement on the matter upon the lawsuit’s filing.

Pervasive claims of Russian interference in American politics were largely shut down by the conclusion of Robert Mueller’s much-hyped probe into the matter, the Special Counsel having failed to find evidence of any plot between the President and Russia to benefit his election.

Fake news has consequences. The New York Times could follow in the footsteps of CNN in facing an expensive settlement with someone it’s defamed, the latter recently being forced to settle with Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann for its slanted editorial coverage of the high school student.

Germany facing coronavirus ‘epidemic,’ govt can no longer track infection chains – health minister

CAP

German Health Minister Jens Spahn has said that his country is facing a “coronavirus epidemic.” Since breaking out in northern Italy, the deadly COVID-19 virus has spread to more than a dozen European countries.

“We are at the beginning of a coronavirus epidemic in Germany,” the minister told reporters in Berlin on Wednesday. Spahn added that infection chains can no longer be tracked in Germany, and called on hospitals and employers to review their pandemic planning.

A new instance of the deadly infection confirmed in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen on Tuesday brought to 18 the number of cases recorded in Germany.

Spahn claimed earlier that “detection and containment” efforts in Europe were working to hold back the spread of the virus, but an explosion of cases in northern Italy and at least 13 other European countries have forced him to reevaluate the situation. At his last press conference on Tuesday, Spahn admitted “it could get worse before it gets better.”

Tracking the ‘infection chains’ – noting the previous travel and social encounters of the infected – is vital to understanding the spread of the illness. Thus far, the majority of patients in Germany were found to have recently traveled from Italy or China, or had contact with travelers.

“The infection chains are partially no longer trackable, and that is a new thing,” Spahn said on Tuesday. “Large numbers of people have had contact with the patients, and that is a big change to the 16 patients we had until now where the chain could be traced back to the origin in China.”

Despite growing panic across the continent, EU health ministers agreed on Tuesday to keep international borders open for the time being. Closing borders would be a disproportionate and ineffective measure at this time,” Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza told reporters after a meeting in Rome.

Originating in Wuhan, China, in November, the novel coronavirus has since spread to around 40 countries worldwide. Over 80,000 people have become infected, and more than 2,700 have died, the majority of them in China.

Journalists Attacked by Violent Bernie Bros in Austin, Texas

One security guard sent to hospital after having his head gashed.

Journalists and security guards were attacked by violent Bernie Bros in Austin, Texas yesterday, with one having to visit hospital to receive stitches after having his head gashed.

One of the security guards revealed what happened to him and his colleagues when Owen Shroyer began bullhorning during the event.

“As soon as Bernie went on stage and Owen tried to give some counter-points with the bullhorn, we were immediately rushed by a number of very aggressive individuals,” said the security guard.

Shroyer and his security were situated well outside the perimeter and where police officers had said they were allowed to be. They did not attempt to insert themselves into where the Bernie supporters were located.

“There were people on the perimeter that were Bernie supporters and as soon as Owen started with his counter-message they rushed us,” the security guard added, noting that a man wearing a black bandana used a large steel flashlight as a threatening weapon while another tried to physically grab Shroyer’s bullhorn.

During this confrontation, a security guard was left bloodied and had to be taken to the hospital to receive stitches. Police were nowhere to be seen during the scuffle.

“I promise you, these people were not peaceful, they were literally preparing themselves, masking up, getting metal objects into their hands, into their pockets, they were looking for a confrontation,” said the security guard.

Other clips from the confrontation showed Bernie supporters acting out in bizarre ways, including one older man who pulled strange faces into the camera while Shroyer was bullhorning.
