Shootings surged and murders were up over 100 percent in New York City last week as protesters flooded the streets, along with rioters who shattered windows and destroyed property.
The New York Postreports there were 13 murders from Monday, June 1, 2020, to Sunday night, June 7, 2020. There were five murders during that same time period in 2019.
Moreover, there were 40 shootings in NYC from June 1 to June 7, 2020. In 2019 “there were 24 shootings.”
The Post reported, “The increase in violence came as demonstrators marched city streets to protest the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.”
The paper described the majority of protests as “peaceful,” but noted peaceful protesters were, at times, “overshadowed by looting and the destruction of stores in several boroughs.”
On June 9, 2020, Breitbart News reported Los Angeles witnessed a 250 percent surge in murders and a 56 percent increase in shooting victims during protest week.
The surge of violence in Los Angeles was mirrored by shootings and murders in other Democrat-controlled cities around the country.
Mayor Lightfoot Pleads With Walmart, Other Retailers To Not Abandon Chicago
Mayor Lightfoot said she’s hopeful major retailers will reopen the Chicago stores that were looted or otherwise damaged during protests surrounding George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota. But, she’s unsure of one of the biggest.
Mayor Lightfoot said she was on a conference call with Walmart and other major retailers that had stores looted or heavily damaged during the unrest in Chicago. She said she pleaded with them to not abandon Chicago.
“I think in the case of Walmart, what they were focused on was assessing the damage. They are doing an effort to donate fresh produce, to the extent of what’s left so it doesn’t perish, and other perishables, and they are taking their time, as I would expect.”
Who can blame these companies if they leave the cities?

A California man arrested in the killing of a Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy appears to have been a committed anti-police ideologue swept up into the national paranoia targeting law enforcement.
Steven Carillo, 32, was arrested for the killing of 32-year old Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller over the weekend. Carillo, a sergeant in the Air Force, became the subject of a police investigation when a community member in Ben Lomond, California, called 911 to report his presence in the community in a white van filled with both guns and explosive devices.
Law enforcement followed Carillo to his home, where the Air Force staff sergeant opened fire upon three police officers and detonated improvised explosives. At least two other officers were injured, with one California Highway Patrol Officer being shot in the hand.
Carillo was foiled in his plans to escape, but spoke openly of his motivations in opening fire on the police when he was being arrested. Video footage of his arrest detailed Carillo breaking down his anti-law enforcement manifesto.
“This is what I came here to fight. I’m sick of these goddamn police.” The disturbed man goes on to mention “use of force.”
Research into Carillo’s Facebook profile shows that the man subscribed to a left-libertarian, condemning “racist whites” and frequently ranting of his opposition to what he perceived as police abuses.
The FBI is currently investigating the possibility of Carillo’s involvement in the shooting murder of Federal Protective Services Officer Dave Patrick Underwood in Oakland. Underwood was killed on May 29th.

After nearly two weeks of violence, mayhem, and rioting in Minneapolis, the City Council on Sunday voted on theirintent to disbandthe police department.
The wild proposal would invest in “community-led public safety” instead of police officers.
“We are here today because George Floyd was killed by the Minneapolis Police Department. We are also here because, here in Minneapolis and in cities across the United States, it is clear that our existing system of policing and public safety isn’t working for so many of our neighbors,” Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender said in a written statement Sunday, obtained by the Appeal. “Our efforts at incremental reform have failed.”
The effort has a veto-proof majority in the council, and many of the members have been publicly outspoken about their disdain for the police department.
On Monday Council President Lisa Bender joined Alisyn Camerota on CNN to discuss the plan.
When asked about who people will call if their home is broken into, who to call, Lisa Bender said this:

Talking head decrees that white children should be indoctrinated to feel guilt about their skin color.

CNN gave airtime to an ‘anti-racist activist’ who suggested that white children should not be allowed to have an ‘innocent’ childhood, but rather be made to feel guilty about their ‘white privilege’ at an early age.
CNN host Poppy Harlow cited a letter sent to her from a school directing white parents how to teach their kids about their ‘white privilege’, and asked Tim Wise“When should parents do this with their kids and how?”
Wise responded that it should be at as young an age as possible, and that white kids need to be repeatedly told they are over privileged in order to sufficiently indoctrinate them.
Leftists have found a way around taking responsibility for their own racism; they just disguise themselves as “anti-racist activists,” and the media rushes to promote their bigoted statements and ideologies. On CNN Newsroom this morning, one such activist, author Tim Wise, told the friendly CNN panel that to be a proper “anti-racist” ally, white parents need to take away their child’s innocence by teaching them about their white privilege and police brutality, at a young age.
The long-delayed reckoning for Martin Luther King Jr is a chance for America to step back from immature social justice radicalism, and once again separate people’s personal lives from their public achievements.
Accounts of the civil rights hero’s infidelity and voracious sexual appetite date back to his lifetime, but the latest accusations, presented by his esteemed biographer David Garrow on the basis of FBI surveillance tapes, won’t disappear neatly under the carpet.
They are too graphic, including orgies and boasts about founding the “International Association for the Advancement of Pussy-Eaters.” They are too criminal, cheering a fellow pastor as he allegedly raped a woman in a hotel room. And most importantly, they are the first ones to surface since #MeToo.
Some on the right have called for vengeance, just as for historic figures, some of them dead for centuries like Robert E Lee, who have been punished for failing to adhere to present day liberal views. And celebrities, who have been branded as anything from sex pests to rapists to pedophiles on much thinner evidence.
So, it’s only fair that we cancel Martin Luther King Jr Day, rename all the streets and schools named after him, take down the statues, and rewrite the textbooks. No more biopics.
But what if instead, we break the cycle of cultural violence?
Surely this is the moment when even the most passionate cancel-happy #TimesUp activists can admit that King’s contribution to the civil rights movement, both as a person and a symbol, is such that no amount of private misdeeds will detract from it.
And perhaps as well as learning not to judge too harshly, Americans will be wary of erecting more idols. After all, we have been here before with Mahatma Gandhi’s naked sleeping with teen relatives, Mother Teresa’s refusal to apply modern medicine that could have saved lives, Nelson Mandela’s role in violent resistance, Aung San Suu Kyi’s rule, and even MLK’s own undeniable plagiarism in academic texts and speeches.
This is an opportunity not only to step back from the Manichean hysteria, but perhaps even a chance to reach across the political divide tearing America apart daily. By treating MLK with humanity and a sense of proportion, the same generosity could then be extended to other “sinners,” even those who do not share the same values.
MLK was flawed, Ronald Reagan was flawed, as were John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Malcolm X, and George W. Bush. Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi, Brett Kavanaugh and Barack Obama and other recent media punching bags are not personifications of evil, but merely public servants trying to do what they believe is best for the country.
But this reads like a naive fantasy.
This is what will more likely happen: excuses will be made for King – the subconsciously racist lower standards of sexual propriety will be applied to a black man. Or perhaps doubt will be cast on the veracity and provenance of the information; focus shifted to the villainy of the FBI that traced MLK’s every step, but did not protect him or his alleged victims.
At worst, MLK’s reputation will take a battering but retain its overall shape. But most likely of all, the impolitic truths will be double-thought out of existence, both acknowledged and forgotten at the same time. Congress will again keep official full FBI records that should have been long opened – and that could confirm or disprove Garrow’s claims – sealed until 2027 and beyond, prolonging the timer on the bomb.
And the same unyielding standards will continue to be applied from the vanguard of the left to the usual targets on the right. The political imperatives are too strong. Because when the big social confrontations are at stake, the heroes must always be saints, and the enemies devils.
