Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) didn’t get her way after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey called her to let her know that the company would not remove a tweet from President Trump featuring a video of her casually dismissing the 9/11 terrorist attack as “some people did something.”

Dorsey called Omar on Tuesday to discuss the tweet after Omar claimed she received a flood of death threats in response.

When the Somali-born Muslim Rep. pressed Dorsey on why the tweet wasn’t removed, Dorsey said that Trump’s tweet didn’t violate the company rules, according to the Washington Post.

Dorsey also pointed to the fact that the tweet and video already had been viewed and shared far beyond the site, one of the sources said. But the Twitter executive did tell Omar that the tech giant needed to do a better job generally in removing hate and harassment from the site, according to the two people familiar with the call. –Washington Post

Two days after Trump’s tweet, Omar said she had experienced an “increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the president’s video.”

Twitter confirmed that the Tuesday call too place, telling the Post “During their conversation, [Dorsey] emphasized that death threats, incitement to violence, and hateful conduct are not allowed on Twitter,” adding “We’ve significantly invested in technology to proactively surface this type of content and will continue to focus on reducing the burden on the individual being targeted. Our team has also consistently been in touch with Rep. Omar’s office.”

Dorsey reached out to Omar the same day that he met with Trump in the Oval Office, after he accepted the president’s invitation. Trump is said to have spent much of the meeting discussing his concerns that Twitter is deliberately targeting and removing his followers, according to the Post.

Cal State LA President Issues Letter Lamenting ‘Cost’ Of Free Speech Ahead Of Daily Wire’s Knowles Event

Michael Knowles

“I cannot remain silent in the face of actions that ostracize our students…”

In a community-wide letter sent out just a few days before The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles‘ scheduled speech on the unversity’s campus, California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) President William Coveno laments the “cost” of protecting free speech.

In a letter sent to the entire “university community” Friday, Coveno addresses the issue of speech that “may be deeply hurtful and may cause anger, confusion and feelings of betrayal.” He also reminds students that the school offers counseling and other services to help handle this “deeply hurtful” speech.

While Coveno does not detail the specific incidents that prompted the letter, he states that he feels compelled to write because of attempts to “ostracize oure students who are immigrants or children of immigrants.” He does not mention Knowles’ upcoming appearance on the campus (Tuesday, April 23), but the timing of the letter and a few of its references has raised eyebrows among the sponsors of the event, Young America’s Foundation.

“Over the years, I’ve spoken with countless families in our community whose dreams for their children are like those of my family,” Coveno begins. “They want their kids to receive a college education so they’ll have good careers and a bright future. Cal State LA offers fertile ground for those dreams to come true as our students explore new ideas and opportunities together. That’s the experience I hope our students will have here.”

The tone of the letter then dramatically shifts. “But there are times when their experiences are not ones that I wish for them,” writes Coveno. He follows that ominous comment with a discussion of the “cost” of free speech.

“As a public university, we uphold the right to free speech — but I want you to know that I recognize its cost,” he writes. “Some speech may be deeply hurtful and may cause anger, confusion and feelings of betrayal among many in our community.”

The university president then suggests that his comments have been triggered by some students’ insensitive statements about immigrants. “As a first-generation college graduate, whose life was changed through education, I cannot remain silent in the face of actions that ostracize our students who are immigrants or children of immigrants,” he continues. “When the actions of a few on our campus lack the compassion and sensitivity that characterize healthy dialogue, it is our collective responsibility to restore those values.”

Coveno then makes clear that when he says “immigrants,” he includes illegal immigrants. “I stand, in unwavering solidarity, with all our students, regardless of their immigration status,” he writes, adding: “To demean and insult in a blatant attempt to provoke others is wrong. Dreamers and other immigrant students are transforming their lives through education and realizing their dreams.”

Knowles’ speech has been promoted by members of YAF in part as addressing the issue of illegal immigration, including the group holding a “build the wall” event.

Coveno then provides contact information for the university’s counseling and psychological services office as well as the Dreamers Resource Center.

“The role of the University in these divisive times is to stand for the values and principles that are central to higher education and to a civil society,” Coveno concludes. “As we witness the polarization of our nation, we must not allow that vitriol to influence how we relate to each other. In our community, compassion and caring are fundamental and divisiveness has no place.”

Knowles’ recent YAF-sponsored speech titled “Men Are Not Women” on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City was met with protesters, who attempted to obstruct other students from hearing his speech by drowning out the speaker. The event erupted in chaos when one student sprayed an unknown liquid on Knowles, prompting campus police to arrest the demonstrator. The chancellor of the university responded to the ugly incident by denouncing Knowles and praising the protesters.

Eric Swalwell Tries to Walk Back Push to Jail Gun Owners

SUNRISE, FLORIDA - APRIL 09: Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who announced that he is running for president in 2020, greets people during a gun violence town hall at the BB&T Center on April 09, 2019 in Sunrise, Florida. Rep. Swalwell held the town hall not far from Marjory Stoneman Douglas …

By Awr Hawkins

Democrat presidential hopeful Eric Swalwell tried to walk back his statement about jailing gun owners who refuse to comply with a future firearms ban.

On April 14, 2019, CNN’s Jake Tapper noted Swalwell’s plan to mandate buybacks of “assault weapons” and criminally prosecute those who do not comply. Tapper asked Swalwell if criminal prosecution means Americans who held on to their guns would go to jail. Swalwell responded, “They would.”

Swalwell added that gun owners would be given an “alternative” choice of placing keeping their guns at “a hunting club or a shooting range,” but either way, the guns would no longer be in their possession.

He has been clear that he plans to use a forced buyback to take “assault weapons” away from everyone who possesses them. In fact, it has been one of his most prominent campaign promises:

Despite these statements on sending non-compliant gun owners to jail and taking away whole categories of firearms, Swalwell claims he has no plans to “take guns from law-abiding gun owners.”

He tweeted:

Note that his attempt to dismiss concerns that he wants to “take guns from law-abiding gun owners” ends with the pledge to #BanandBuyBack. The plan to #BanandBuyback is the method used to take away guns in Australia and New Zealand.

TECHTech Censorship: Instagram Bans Pro-Trump Cartoonist Ben Garrison

By

Ben Garrison Banned Instagram

Pro-Trump political cartoonist Ben Garrison was banned from Instagram earlier today, as the platform claimed he posted hate speech and violated the platform’s terms.

Garrison discovered his ban when logging into the platform today. He was greeted with a notification seeming to suggest the cartoonist posted something the platform considers “hate speech,” however, it is unclear what may have been offensive about his post.

“We removed your post because it doesn’t follow our Community Guidelines on hate speech or symbols,” the notification read. “If you violate our guidelines again, your account may be restricted or disabled.”

When Garrison attempted to accept the notification and access his count, he received a second notification informing him “Your account has been disabled for violating our terms.”

Garrison took to Twitter, citing his ban as an example of tech censorship and bias.

“#WhosNext” wrote Garrison, “Anyone who disagrees with the #Democrat Narrative #censorship ramp up for #2020Elections” he asked rhetorically. Garrison also used the #StopTheBias hashtag popularized by President Donald J. Trump.

Garrison joins a slew of conservatives who have been banned from the Facebook-owned platform.

British commentator and politician Tommy Robinson was banned last year during his legal hurdles, with former Proud Boys leader and VICE founder Gavin McInnes banned two months later.

Last week, Canadian politician and journalist Faith Goldy gave an exclusive interviewto Big League Politics after she was banned by Facebook and Instagram.

“Facebook, without any warning to me, has informed Canada’s state journalists that they consider me to be a ‘Dangerous Individual,’” Faith Goldy told Big League Politics.

“What a farce! I’m a 29-year-old Canadian girl who loves my country and makes videos citing statistics from my kitchen table,” she continued. “If enemies of nationalism consider little ol’ me to be a threat, it shows you how weak their arguments really are. Newsflash: Ideas took countries and whole continents by storm long before Instagram models and Facebook likes were a thing.”

Goldy was banned from Instagram, too, which is owned by Facebook.

Last month Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, was forced to apologizeafter it banned President Trump’s social media director Dan Scavino.

#RedforEd: Socialist 24-Year-Old Leading National Leftist Teachers Movement Has Not Passed U.S. Constitution Test Arizona Requires of Educators

By Michael Patrick Leahy

Noah Karvelis — the 24-year old Arizona music teacher who was credited with launching the national #RedforEd movement that spawned teachers’ strikes in Arizona in March 2018 and subsequently in other states around the country — holds just a “provisional” teaching certificate, having failed to complete the required coursework and pass tests on the U.S. Constitution and the Arizona Constitution.

This information about the #RedforEd leader is according to publicly available data on the Online Arizona Certification Information System (OACIS) website of the Arizona Department of Education.

In Arizona, public school teachers are granted “provisional” status for three years, after which they must pass a number of tests and performance reviews to achieve the more permanent “standard” status.

To gain “standard” status, “provisional” teachers must not be on a performance improvement plan and must complete coursework and pass two important tests — one on the U.S. Constitution and another on the Arizona Constitution.

Conservative talk radio host James T. Harris, heard weekday afternoons on Phoenix’s KFYI, first reported in April 2018 on Karvelis’s failure to pass the required constitutional courses, and Karvelis has apparently done nothing to address that deficiency in the intervening year.

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 11.14.56 AM

Karvelis was granted a provisional PreK-12 music education certificate in July 2016. That certificate is currently valid but is scheduled to expire in July 2019.

One year after Harris reported on Karvelis’s two deficiencies for his provisional PreK-12 music education certificate, those deficiencies remain, as can be seen on the Arizona Department of Education website as follows:

Deficiencies for Selected Certification

Deficiencies – A certification requirement which must be completed within a specified period of time.

Deficiency Code: AZCON

Deficiency Description: Arizona Constitution

Certification Note: Completion of a course or passing the appropriate examination on the provisions and principles of the Arizona Constitution is required.

Deficiency Code: USCON

Deficiency Description: US Constitution

Certification Note: Completion of a course or passing the appropriate examination on the provisions and principles of the United States Constitution is required.

Karvelis’s lack of interest in the U.S. Constitution is not surprising. As Breitbart Newsreported, he is part of a new breed of left-wing activists embedded in the ranks of teachers across the country:

The political environment changed after the election of Donald Trump as president in 2016, and teachers union activism became dominated by young, hardcore left-wing political activists, all operating under the general wing of the various teachers unions and, in particular, the National Education Association.

Noah Karvelis — who graduated from the University of Illinois with a teaching degree in 2016, just a few months before Donald Trump was elected — was one of those activists. FEC records indicate he made small donations in 2015 and 2016 to the Bernie Sanders for President campaign, on which he also volunteered.

During his first year teaching, he also had time to pen an article for Progressive Times, which was published in February 2017, titled “From Marx to Trump: Labor’s Role in Revolution.”

“Without the empowerment of the working class and of organized labor, any revolution is destined from the outset for failure. In these early days of the Trump Era, we must continue our fight and bolster the working class as we strive towards a progressive political revolution. By doing so, we will move our revolution ever closer to imminent success,” Karvelis wrote in that article.

Evidence continues to mount that the so-called “organic” launch of the #RedforEd movement in Arizona last March by “rank and file” teachers was, in fact, a highly orchestrated political campaign masterminded by Joe Thomas, head of the Arizona Education Association teachers union.

Karvelis launched the #RedforEd campaign on social media in March 2018, just a few months after he was appointed as the head of the Littleton (Arizona) Elementary School District teachers union by state boss Joe Thomas, sources tell Breitbart News. Karvelis was elevated to lead the local teachers union over about 150 other members of the local union — almost all of whom had more teaching experience — despite only having a “provisional” status as a teacher in the state.

While employed as a music teacher at Tres Rios Service Academy in the Littleton Elementary School District, sources tell Breitbart News Karvelis was often excused from his teaching duties to attend to union business.

As Breitbart News reported in February, #RedforEd is “[a] well-funded and subversive leftist movement of teachers in the United States [that] threatens to tilt the political balance nationwide in the direction of Democrats across the country as Republicans barely hang on in key states that they need to hold for President Donald Trump to win re-election and for Republicans to have a shot at retaking the House and holding onto their Senate majority.”

Karvelis will not apparently be required to move up from “provisional” status to “standard” status because he is moving on from teaching in Arizona public schools. Sources tell Breitbart News he is entering a Ph.D. program the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall, a fact he confirmed in this tweet he sent out last month:

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 11.17.04 AM

Karvelis, the young far-left political activist embedded in Arizona to launch the #RedforEd movement, will be right at home with the far left faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education and, more specifically, within the Curriculum and Instruction department.

Among the faculty members who teach in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Curriculum and Instruction Ph.D. program is Professor Julia Eklund Koza.

According to her bio, “Professor Koza teaches in the areas of music education and multicultural education, and she was Chair of the Music Education Area from 1998-2014.”

She is the founder of the Consortium for Research on Equity in Music Education (CRÈME), an international, cross-institutional initiative that fosters equity research in music education, and she twice served as the faculty chair of UW-Madison’s Committee on Women in the University. Her widely published research focuses on equity issues in education, music, and music education, as well as on corporate influence on music education policy.

In 2008, she wrote an article for Philosophy of Music Education Review titled, “Listening for Whiteness: Hearing Racial Politics in Undergraduate School Music.”

Professor Diana Hess, Dean of UW-Madison’s School of Education, has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in Social Studies, Educational Policy and Law.

She is the co-author, along with Paula McAvoy, of The Political Classroom: Evidence and Ethics in Democratic Education, which “won the American Educational Research Association’s Outstanding Book Award in 2016.”

According to the book’s website, “In their new book, The Political Classroom: Evidence and Ethics in Democratic Education, Diana E. Hess and Paula McAvoy argue that schools are, and ought to be, political sites — places that engage students in deliberations about questions that ask, ‘How should we live together’”

McAvoy is a contributor to the controversial far-left Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance project, where she recently wrote an article titled “Polarized Classrooms: Understanding political divides can help students learn to bridge them.”

Video: Trump Supporters Afraid to Wear MAGA Hats

These interviews prove many on the left are engaged in domestic terrorism as conservatives are intimidated by political foes

Kaitlin Bennett | Infowars.com – APRIL 10, 2019

Kaitlin Bennett talks with Trump supporters who proudly flaunt their MAGA hats outside of a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan but admit they’re afraid to wear them in public.

In today’s hostile political environment, the majority of Trump supporters interviewed admitted they feel uneasy when wearing Trump gear due to the high possibility of being attacked or accosted by liberals suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).

By definition, this behavior is a form of terrorism.

ACLU Issues Florida Travel Advisory for ‘Immigrants and People of Color’

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has issued a travel advisory for Florida, claiming that “immigrants and people of color” are at risk of having their constitutional rights violated by anti-sanctuary city legislation under consideration.

“BREAKING: We and partners have issued a travel advisory urging immigrants and people of color to use extreme caution when traveling in Florida. The state is on the verge of passing a draconian anti-immigrant bill which will endanger our communities,” the ACLU wrote in a social media post on Monday.

Screen Shot 2019-04-09 at 11.37.08 AM

The legislation —  Flordia House Bill 527 and Senate Bill 168 — would bar municipal and state government agencies from upholding sanctuary policies. The bills would also mandate agencies to work with federal immigration authorities.

The ACLU of Florida said in a press release the bills would cause “irreparable human cost” and “expose counties and other government entities to potential legal and financial liabilities by forcing local authorities to comply with ICE’s flawed detainer system.”

“It’s shameful that the state of Florida seeks to further harass immigrant communities and erode public safety,” said Florida Immigration Coalition political director Thomas Kennedy. “Taking precious local resources away from law enforcement to further target Floridian families for deportation comes at an extremely high financial and moral cost. The insidious attacks against immigrants on the national level are being amplified by Florida lawmakers pushing for anti-immigrant policies.”

In an interview with Newsweek, State Sen. Joe Gruters, the Senate bill’s sponsor, criticized the travel advisory, accusing the ACLU of  “fearmongering and upping the rhetoric even more”

“This deals with criminal illegal aliens. Unless you’re breaking the law, you have no worries about this bill. This only deals with illegal aliens who are here, who are being processed by the judicial system,” said Gruters. “It’s about protecting the rule of law.”

The ACLU issued a travel advisory for the state of Texas in 2017, citing legislation mandating law enforcement agencies to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
