Poll: 55% of Democrats Support ‘Defund the Police’; 64% of Americans Oppose

A new poll released Friday showed that 55% of Democrats approve of calls by the Black Lives Matter movement to “defund the police” — though 64% of the country as a whole opposes the idea.

Strong majorities of Americans oppose the movement to “defund the police” and some of its most significant goals, specifically reshuffling funding away from law enforcement to support mental health, housing and education programs, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday finds.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans oppose calls for defunding police departments, compared to 34% who back the movement, and 60% specifically oppose reducing the budget for police to reallocate it to other public health and social programs, while 39% support that move.

Democrats stand as the lone faction among the political tribes that approve by a majority of defunding the police (55%) and redirecting it to mental health, housing and education programs (59%).

Black Americans support “defund the police,” ABC noted, “though not overwhelmingly so,” at 57%, with 64% approving of the idea to move police funding elsewhere.

However, “nearly three in four white Americans and 57% of Hispanics are against defunding the police, and two-thirds of whites and 58% of Hispanics oppose moving budgets elsewhere.”

The poll was conducted among 686 adults, with a margin of error of 4.2%. It partially confirms the result of a similar poll last week, which found that 65% of Americans oppose the idea.

Black Lives Matter activists across the nation have demanded that local governments “defund the police” or “abolish the police.”

One of the core demands of the so-called “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ) occupying part of downtown Seattle, for example, is that the police department be abolished.

Democrats in Minneapolis, Minnesota — where George Floyd was killed on Memorial Day while in police custody — announced that they back proposals to disband the police department.

Last week, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that he would be cutting up to $150 million from the budget of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) — over 10% of the total — and using it to invest in “communities of color.”

Asked by Breitbart News earlier this week whether removing police from the LAPD would make “communities of color” more unsafe, Garcetti said that more police did not necessarily mean less crime.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee claimed that he “hasn’t even heard” of the leftist protostate that rioters have staked out in Seattle’s Capital Hill neighborhood in a Wednesday press conference.

ANTIFA-linked left wing political extremists have walled off a section of Seattle that they’re terming the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. The rebels openly style their commune, which is little more than a few city blocks, as a sovereign territory independent of the United States.

Jay Inslee claimed that he hasn’t even heard of the attempt at secession from his authority. A reporter asked him about his response to the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone, to which he either feigned or expressed genuine ignorance.

“Well that’s news to me,” Inslee claimed. “So, I’ll have to reserve any comment about it. I have not, I have not heard anything about that from any credible source, not that you’re not credible, it’s just like before I espouse an opinion, I should know of which I speak.”

As it turns out, the governor of a major American state is entirely ignoring an organized attempt at secession occurring within his jurisdiction.

Seattle police continue to treat the rebellious territory with kid gloves, as the city’s ultraprogressive mayor refuses to do anything to deter the serious public safety and sanitary issues the leftist commune represents to the public.

Although the ANTIFA-linked criminals that initially walled off and set up the leftist commune claimed their new territory was an anarchist community with no traditional model of governance, it appears their political fantasy is already rapidly falling apart. Soundcloud Rapper Raz Simone has increasingly taken up what some witnesses are describing as a “warlord” status within the walled left-wing community, chasing, beating and threatening to shoot graffiti artists and other residents of the community for failing to obey his commands.

Shootings Surge, Murders up over 100 Percent as Protesters Flood NYC

Shootings surged and murders were up over 100 percent in New York City last week as protesters flooded the streets, along with rioters who shattered windows and destroyed property.

The New York Post reports there were 13 murders from Monday, June 1, 2020, to Sunday night, June 7, 2020. There were five murders during that same time period in 2019.

Moreover, there were 40 shootings in NYC from June 1 to June 7, 2020. In 2019 “there were 24 shootings.”

The Post reported, “The increase in violence came as demonstrators marched city streets to protest the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.”

The paper described the majority of protests as “peaceful,” but noted peaceful protesters were, at times, “overshadowed by looting and the destruction of stores in several boroughs.”

On June 9, 2020, Breitbart News reported Los Angeles witnessed a 250 percent surge in murders and a 56 percent increase in shooting victims during protest week.

The surge of violence in Los Angeles was mirrored by shootings and murders in other Democrat-controlled cities around the country.

NPR GUSHES OVER MASSIVE PROTESTS WHILE CLAIMING TRUMP RALLIES ARE DANGEROUS DUE TO COVID-19

This is why establishment media has lost the public’s trust

Two tweets from National Public Radio (NPR) perfectly represent the hypocrisy of the left-leaning outlet.

On one hand, NPR praises the thousands of people closely gathered to protest police brutality in the name of George Floyd, but days later, they criticized President Trump for announcing he’ll be holding rallies soon.

The first tweet, posted on Saturday, reads, “Thousands of voices at a protest in D.C. came together to sing the Bill Withers classic ‘Lean on Me,’ led by local musician Kenny Sway. ‘It sounded like unity and togetherness,’ he says. ‘It sounded like love and pureness of the people.’”

Then, on Monday, NPR tweeted, “President Trump will hit the campaign trail this month — despite the deadly coronavirus pandemic, which continues to impact the lives and livelihoods of households across the country. ‘The rallies will be tremendous,’ a campaign manager said.”

Below is another tweet where NPR promotes “throngs of protesters gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial for a rally” and “over a dozen similar events.”

Other Twitter users have noticed NPR’s hypocrisy as well:

Perhaps the outlet truly believes combatting racism is worth the chance contracting coronavirus.

They did publish an article weighing the risks of protesting amid COVID-19, tweeting out, “White supremacy is a lethal public health issue that predates and contributes to COVID-19.”

It’s no wonder President Trump has called for the defunding of the outlet for years now!

MSNBC host and former Democratic Party presidential candidate Rev. Al Sharpton attacked President Trump at the the funeral for George Floyd held in Houston Tuesday. Sharpton berated Trump for the forced clearing out of protesters a block from the White House a week ago Monday before the President stood in front of a church set on fire by protesters the night before.

Floyd died May 25 in Minneapolis while being arrested for allegedly passing a counterfeit twenty dollar bill at a store. Video of Floyd on the pavement by a police car repeatedly saying “I can’t breath” and calling out “Mama” while being restrained by now fired officer Derek Chauvin with a knee to his neck for almost nine minutes until he was dead sparked national outrage, protests and riots.

Chauvin and the other three officers involved in the arrest of Floyd have been charged in his death, with Chauvin charged with second degree murder and manslaughter.

President Trump has condemned the death in police custody of Floyd and ordered the Justice Department to investigate. Trump has also acted to quell the riots and looting in Washington, D.C. and across the country following the death of Floyd.

Trump’s show of support for St. John’s Church after it was burned by protesters has been criticized by Democrats and reporters for the use of force by police to clear out protesters from the area.

Chicago Mayor Now Pleading With Walmart And Other Companies Not To Leave The City

After the recent riots which saw multiple large stores looted, some retailers are having second thoughts about remaining in certain cities.

In Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been talking to these retailers and asking them not to leave the city.

Not only do these companies make it possible for residents to get the things they need, they pay tons of taxes which the city relies on.

Mayor Lightfoot said she’s hopeful major retailers will reopen the Chicago stores that were looted or otherwise damaged during protests surrounding George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota. But, she’s unsure of one of the biggest.

Mayor Lightfoot said she was on a conference call with Walmart and other major retailers that had stores looted or heavily damaged during the unrest in Chicago. She said she pleaded with them to not abandon Chicago.

“I think in the case of Walmart, what they were focused on was assessing the damage. They are doing an effort to donate fresh produce, to the extent of what’s left so it doesn’t perish, and other perishables, and they are taking their time, as I would expect.”

Who can blame these companies if they leave the cities?

The Sun-Times reported:

Twenty-four people were killed and at least 61 others were wounded by gun violence in Chicago’s most violent weekend of the year so far, which also saw widespread protests, riots and looting throughout the city in the wake of the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd.

More than half of the weekend’s victims were shot on Sunday as the city reeled from violent protests Saturday night that led to hundreds of arrests and the implementation of a curfew.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said Monday that of the total fatal shootings over the weekend, 17 homicides occurred on Sunday alone. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed 15 for Sunday, with another three at unknown locations.

The weekend’s toll surpasses the tally from the same weekend in 2019, when 52 people were wounded — 8 fatally — in citywide gun violence.
